2nd hand bike
remove all the bike beside the brakes (or just the front), get a new rear wheel build by your LBS, learn how to add/remove chain and you're sorted.
unless the BB and crankset is damaged, just get them to put a cheap Andes one and you're sorted, yet you still be paying just half the price of the Plug and pretty much half the weight!
and make sure you don't get an old 27 1/4 inch touring frame. i have a bit of a bodge going in terms of brake reach/pinch with one such frame and an old weinmann on 700c's

if all part in stock, and if you have the money to get it, then yes it's possible, but expensive thought, I would have save £150 on my missus' bike had it not been for the deadline (end up buying new part for it to get it done).
ed, i met you and the 'missus' the other day on old st/clarkenwell. Nice to meet you. Her bike looked reeeeeeally pretty. I agree. Did you splash out at freshtripe?

Another stupid comment...you guys should start some kind of club for people jealous of those who have more money than you.
Why the fuck are his posessions any less important than yours?
I can't afford insurance.
all I was saying is that whose side should we be on, a suit in an expensive car driving like an idiot, or someone who like us has to put up with people nearly knocking us off every day.
Aintcha ever watched fightclub? :p

I think people need to put this in perspective. Cyclists are getting hit and dying out there all the time, many times because of careless drivers. I've never heard of a driver getting killed because of a cyclist not looking and pulling out on him.
A driver pulls out in front of a cyclist, the cyclist decides to run into the car, no damage done to anyone, and you all defend the driver! Crazy!
+1
A lambo? You really care if that get scratched? He probably hasn't done a proper day's work in his life. -

^^Yeah but not one who is making a parts bike or "proper fixid gear" on the cheap. I keep seeing vintage frames, carbon stuff and custom frames on the current projects other than the odd Pug project which most of the time is someone's "Pub" i.e. second bike. I suspect the strong majority have spent a fuck load more than people who have bought OTPs. In fact I'd be willing to bet that bar a few, the people with OTPs are the ones who have spent the least amount of money on their bikes.
my build- Pug Frame, given me by my neighbor, back in somerset.
rear wheel-given to me by bike nerd friend
front wheel- £20 from shop I worked at
Got some rubinos for a tenner.
Had Pedals and cages from old Claud Butler school-ride bike.
Cranks, £35 from someone on here, although to be fair I still need to put that balance across. Nice guy.
Brake lever, found on the floor at shop.
Then bought new
Threadless BB, Chainring, DA Sprocket, Chain. All bashed in by Edwardes.
Overall cost, tops of £130.
And it's greeeeeeeet. -

just dug this up...all I know is that two of my co workers had the sram system, one of them had red, and whenever it rained, mind you in somerset this involves a load of shit all over the road, they ended up having to re index things and just generally fiddle more than the other guys on shimano.
It'll be interesting to see how the new electronic dura ace holds up over time in the wet....

Ha, band names - we've gone through a fair few recently..
Dalliance -> Tactics -> Freyja (for about a day), I think we're currently going with cowards.
What style? Its difficult in the city, people are so much more cynical about stuff like band names. There used to be some total shit that was accepted at home (Glastonbury).
Tijuana, Stillborn, and I just heard one band is calling themselves Flux. eurghhhh

Ok
without trying to sound like a posy, mouthy shit. Who would be up for a ride up the d'huez in the summer?
I've been wanting to do it since I went there years ago on a family holiday, and I can use it as a fundraiser for TCT. Anyhow, I think it would be a crazy challenge (at least for me, don't know about the everyday couriers and more hardcore road riders, I've fallen out of that groove) but doable. I'm not even thinking about this one fixed, although some logic would suggest it has advantages...but, come on. So would any one be up for this? Just an idea really. Other wise I'm going to make do with that event at Cheddar gorge where you have to do the vertical distance of Everest for the same cause.
But yeah, you're all going to rip the life out of this aren't you? :p
