Wonder if anyone could help?
Been having 'un-fun' times with my shimano SPD-SL road pedal system recently whilst riding.
Essentially, my right foot feels much looser in the pedal than the left does. I use the yellow bottomed cleats which are meant to have a bit of float in them, but recently they have started to feel a little odd. The pedal tension is cranked right up to the full but they still seem to pop out really easily, with even the slightest of force laterally, where as the left is the same tension and stays in just fine.
This would usually be fine but i've been riding brakeless for the past few weeks as there is some play in my headset (which i should probably get sorted anyway) and twice now when i have pulled up with my right foot to skid i have just popped out, obviously not a brilliant scenario when coming up to junctions or down hills. Cleats have been changed, to no avail. Any ideas with the pedal other than just buying a new pair?
Any help much appreciated.
p.s. I realise that riding brakeless with plastic cleats is pretty dumb
p.p.s No 'get a brake' comments -
Yeah man things are pretty healthy here, a good core of 25 or so riders in our little group, got rides every monday and polo on wednesdays - there is a track in mansfield that does some roller racing too which a few have been down to.
The hills, coupled with the fact you can be out of the city and up high somewhere in the countryside in 12 minutes riding are the best bits!

Blimey, I appear to have started a craze.
Murtle, do get it checked out. Although it is unlikely to be a problem, if it is, it is better treated sooner rather than later.
dracula, and then what happened?
Fortunately managed to slow the bike down sufficiently so that on the next (much smaller) uphill i could stop. Shoes are pretty battered though! Swapped my cleats out now. I think they were just a bit battered.
to give you an idea - I'm in Nottingham - this is the hill - for thsoe that know it was the second down hill section of woodborough road (leading from Mapperley into the City)

They don't charge too much for frames, and they aren't cunts like you're making out. They are just a fuckin bike shop.
It is a fact that you will get a good product from 14 bike co, so if you want a bike from them and get bad service, go back another time and deal with a different member of staff.
This is how I'd deal with it. I'm not gonna 'take my business elsewhere' just because one member of staff may have been having a bad day. Why complain when you can HTFU and get on with it?
Im not making out they are cunts mate, im saying that i took the time and effort to come down from nottingham to the shop to get measured up for a frame and felt like the service was substandard. i work in sales, i know how to deliver decent customer service and i dont feel like i got that.
Im not whinging, i was just sharing my experience. I have popped in in the past and spoken to people and they have been sound, it just seemed a bit of a shame that i got better customer service buying a pair of toe clips than i did getting measured up for a custom built bicycle.Anyway big man, maybe you are used to having shit customer service because you're a dick.

went into 14 the other day. I have a fair amount of cash to spend on a frame and forks.
really disappointed with the service. i felt like i was just going through a process to choose the colours i wanted the frame as opposed to being given an actual run down of my different options, i wasnt expecting every different combination of steel and lug to be available but a little guidance would have been nice, seeing as thats why i went in there. To be honest i felt like the person i dealt with would rather have been doing something else. pretty shit when about to lay down the best part of a grand on a bike which is supposedly custom fitted to yourself. Was more than prepared to put the deposit down there and then but they scuppered their chances of that pretty quickly.

ooh more nottingham riders - happy times. I am another bespectacled chap here.
Find riding in them fine really, i'd maybe consider getting some prescription cycling ones but i dont see the point really because my usual specs are fine. Wouldn't ride in the rain with them though, my eyesight is good enough to be able to just about manage without mind.

Hippy - Unclip when bike is stationary with right foot first then swing my leg over and unclip left.
They are about 6 months old - only the cheap shimano jobs. Gonna see if i can have a go on some 105s and see if there is a difference...
