Varies state by state. In CO the main annoyance is goathead thorns but they're seasonal and come in after summer I think. I got one on a path last autumn and one recently off road. No problems on the road bike all winter and so far in spring. I'm switching to tubeless for some upcoming gravelly rides only.
Just started snowing here. I reckon that'll be the last one this winter. The storm warning sounds nasty and it'll be dumping in the mountains but it's still "warm" spring snow - the roads will be clear tomorrow.

No worries, this is the one I can vouch for FWIW.

thinking about a new steel frame gravel/cross bike. would love to try apex 1, any relevant things against (except more weight)? or better upgrade to force 1/rival 1?
I upgraded my commuter from Claris to Apex-1 a few weeks ago and really liking it. Just using the stock 42t chainring for now but tempted to replace with a 38t or similar given the chubby tires fitted. I do recall reading something about the Apex derailleur having just sleeves on the wheels instead of bearings like Rival+ have so there's that - marginal gains and all. Can't say I notice if that's the case compared to my other bikes though. Everything feels very solid and reliable. Planning on taking it on some long rides soon.

If you don't want to fuck it up, take it to a shop with proper choppers.
Doing anything with a bread knife is a quick way to absolutely ruin it.Made a little jig with a 2x4 and some nails so the cutting went fine, nice and square. Must have let a bit of air in though because there's way too much travel in the lever for my liking, so I'll be learning to bleed the system after all.

OSM works fine for my cycling needs, especially if you're sticking to good paved roads. It's not good at distinguishing unpaved but if you've got a route already, it does the job.
