Keep it British, carradice panniers.
I did want to, you know!
Yesterday I went to Bike Plus in Croydon - the only place near London I was able to get a look at them, it seems, and boy are the Super C's quite beautiful. They remind me of the PLCE Army Bergens and are undoubtedly indestructable and look quite classic.
But they are too big for my needs, and the smaller Carradurra are simply not of the same quality. They have some straps wailing everyone, not of the same, really thick, classic material and do not even have the same attachments.
The arkels, on the other hand, have a million useful pockets on the outside and I think make them far more appropriate for inner city use, and I got them half price for £60.

I'll treat the OP as real...
I used to ride this all the time and it'd better coming back the other way - I can't remember which streets are one-way, you'll need to check it. But from Holborn crossroads by the station, head south down Aldwych, on the way back, you'll come out right at the top, next to the station. Think you have to go down a couple of streets and cut in left there instead. Ride across Lincolns Inn Fields, which is empty at all times of the day. Watch out for tramps getting soup from the van if you're going very early - they mill in the road a bit. At the bottom corner of LIF, you're on Serle St and then left into Carey St. Then I think you can go down Bell Yd which is a dead end but you just hop off, cross 5yds of pavement and you're on Fleet St. Belt down the downhill end of Fleet St and across the crossroads, unfortunately, this is followed by pedalling up Ludgate Hill but because of all the buses and stuff, you're usually well shielded and the climb is good for you. ;-) After that, you have a little maze of street on your right that you can wiggle down to avoid traffic if you need to. I was never much fussed, so I just used to bomb down Cannon St all the way. It's got cars on it but it moves pretty smoothly. Much nicer than Victoria St and waaayyy better than Upper Thames St for some reason. Then you're at the top of the bridge...
But as I said, it is a better route coming the other way - particularly Lincolns Inn Fields. Even just a minute of silence and trees and grass on your commute does wonders for the soul.
Depending on where you go after Holborn (or before, depending on which way you're going), cutting out of the top of LIF and into Red Lion St brings you up towards Lambs Conduit Passage which is also a nice quiet moment on your commute. And you can look at all the recliners outside Bikefix as you pass as well.
Enjoy.
Tim
Thanks Tim, sounds like a good route. I will try it out.

- Fry a large nob of butter(or olive oil) in a pan.
- Insert half teaspoon mustard seed
- Fry 1/2 to a whole fennel depending on taste
- Fry squid for just about 1 min, careful not to overcook.
- Add Spaghetti (boiled ten minutes ago)
- Finish with juice of one lemon
Optional: Add a small handful of cherry tomatoes
- Fry a large nob of butter(or olive oil) in a pan.

I would suggest making the following:
- Fry a large nob of butter(or olive oil) in a pan.
- Insert half teaspoon mustard seed
- Fry squid
- Add Spaghetti (boiled ten minutes ago)
- Finish with juice of one lemon
Optional: Add a small handful of cherry tomatoes with fennel.
This is one of the easiest and tastiest meals I cook - the butter smoothens the fennel, and the lemon sharpens the butter, so it tastes light.
I hate aniseed but love Fennel, which I hope illustrates how simple and unintense this meal is.
- Fry a large nob of butter(or olive oil) in a pan.

Paul, I don't see why you felt you needed to apologise. Most of us were growing accustomed to your rather inane threads.
I mean, you came on here as a newbie, and quickly started a guide for newbies! The gall. You outdid Asterisk and Obelisk! To those who think this a good moment to prove their superiority to me; I do know the difference between Gall and Gaul. A play on words, so thank you.
Whether you apologised or not was not the issue. As others have said, get on your bike and meet some of the forum folk. I think you strive to be different, and also true to yourself. You're a bit of an enigma.
When I came on here, some of the old farts couldn't stand the "lists" I created. I stuck to my guns, and I have friends on here. We're all different, and its good to be yourself. The forum as a group do work reluctantly together, and we do moderate each other (except Tynan).
Okay, now you have hoist yourself 'pon your own petard, relax and be yourself. Be an arse, and you'll be accepted by some. Be clever, and you'll be accepted by others. But nothing you do will ever make you be accepted by everybody.
Relax my friend. I for one, think your vocation is in the Comedy Store.
Now when are you coming round my place to look at my brakes? :)

genius. one thread saying sorry for crap threads - while at the same time posting in another crap thread. confusing me.
I refer you to the opening line, which states;
'and, while this post will fail to alleviate some of the intensity of the hatred of my clearly histrionic personality,(after all, making a post of this nature about yourself is, objectively, twattish)'.

My teasing/spamming has reached epic proportions (though now even when I don't intend to tease it seems to have that effect) and, while this post will fail to alleviate some of the intensity of the hatred of my clearly histrionic personality,(after all, making a post of this nature about yourself is, objectively, twattish) I would like to commend to thee that I am not a complete (only partial) wanker in real life.
When I pluck up the courage to come along to drinks or, more likely a ride, I hope to prove this to you. Providing someone can indemnify me if I get anally raped by Cliveo, whoever he is. I have thus far only met Scott very briefly - I'm sure he'll contend I'm not a complete weirdo/wanker from as much as you can contend so from a five minute chat.
I now promise to never again post stupid shite. I mean very little of what I say, though I still find it suprising how serious everyone takes it. You will notice from the travel threads and on a few other occasions I have genuinly contributed to this forum as a normal human being - and i did attempt to 'give back' to the community after I spammed a million questions by creating the newbie guide using the info I collated. I am not all bad. From now on - possibly by silence - I will prove I am potentially mostly good.
Pleas try to alter your perception of me, I know I have not helped myself, and I will try ten times harder in return. I came here to meet bike fans and to learn being a newbie to road riding. Unfortunately I got lost on the way trying to cure boredom with spam.
I am changing my avatar from Wagner's character, Parsifal, to something a more humble and measured entity (the fennel) to give visual representation to the death of PM and the birth of Paul. I will, however, keep the name to remind you of the golden days.
Cheers,
Paul
(not PM, my internet pseudonym.)For everyone else who wants to habour bad feelings derived purely from the realm of the internet, well, fuck you, you're pathetic.

How on earth is this insulting him?
Its just that formal quotes always sound so staged, thats why I hehed.
I certainly am not mocking the idea of training; as Oliver will say himself, he will remember that I took up the offer free training from the council and I think its fantastic too - although I think I could have done with the advance course.

I know, I know, but my stomach turned when there was that fixed bike in Topshop ages ago. There is just something insincere about it.
Its like the idea of topshop opening a motorbike clothing range - to me, it cheapens it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for continuing popularisation of bike; it brings a smile to my face everyday seeing everyone commute to work. It is just a shame when pretentiousness starts to ruin the humble and sinple joy of riding a bike.
