On the stem-mounted levers, is it possible to replace the lever with an indexed campag lever? Or to put it another way, if you take the lever off, are you left with the same sort of boss that you have on a down-tube?
My son has a bike with 8 speed campag kit but wants the lever up near the bars rather than on the down tube. I've tried with an old Campag thumbie but it's not really working, hence exploring the stem-mounted option.

Ian, not sure if this is of any use, but I have a basic silver ISIS 170mm crankset that you can have for a fiver without the chainring, a tenner with the chainring:

Aw, I wish I was. I've done it a few times since 2005 and was all ready to do it again this year but son #2 is doing his first gig with his new band tomorrow night and I don't fancy my chances of getting from West Wickham up to the DunRun route to join in the happy throng after the gig, added to which I'd have to ride back and I bet there are lots of jobs for me to do at home on Sunday (with my 7.94mm allen key, no doubt)
But the tale of how your left leg was flailing around with a crank attached to it at Bricklayers Arms this morning is surely something people need to hear about in the public interest?

If you're after sparkly red, I have the forks from my Pogliaghi in sparkly red with gold lug-lining. The frame was a 55cm one, but the steerer was almost too short for the headtube - I'd have felt more comfortable if the headset nut had been able to grip on a few more threads, but it never failed me.
They were originally chromed and had Columbus "foderi laminati" decals but Vaz resprayed them when he did the frame a few years back. The rest of the frame was in a special double-butted columbus tubing with fluting on the top and down tubes. You're welcome to pop round the corner and have a look some time - not this evening but perhaps tomorrow evening? The frame and forks are currently hanging on the wall in our utility room.

Oh cripes, I'm really fouling this up for you Hovis. I'm terribly sorry. I should have made it clear that the donation relating to the Walkman Pro was quite substantial - as far as I recall, the previous owner had suggested £50, so I think you'd be well within your rights to demand fiddy dorrah for yours - after all, it's got a radio on it!

Maybe I should buy the Huret one on the left, as it's got a rubber bit on it that might protect son #2 from injury in the event of a crash.
And if I can bodge the campag lever onto it, all well and good and, if not, he can always learn to change gear by feel, like we all did before the early 80s and the arrival of indexed gears!
