I've caught many in the London area, including a huge one in the Serpentine that I took home and cooked. Apparently nightswimmers in the Serpentine have to be careful not to tread on them, as they come up onto the tarmac shore on warm summer nights. And I've heard tell that there's a chap who runs a cafe on the Edgware Road who traps them and serves them up to his customers. The New River up near Hoddesdon/Broxbourne has loads and the water is so clear and shallow that you can see them wandering around on the river bed. And the chub and perch in some of the rivers around Bedfordshire are getting very fat by eating lots of these crayfish.

Asked Mrs R yesterday if she wanted to join me on the tandem for this. Her reply was not very positive. Also established that this year she will not drive up from Forest Hill to meet up on the beach, take me to a pub in orford to allow me to nod off with my nose in a pint of Adnams and then drive back home to the accompaniment of my happy snoring, as she has done in past years.

If it's still blocked, I have one of those long spring things that you can feed down the waste pipe and wiggle around to dislodge gunk. I worked for use when our bathroom basin waste pipe clogged up a good few feet beyond where it went out through the external wall. You're welcome to borrow this springy thing if you like - I'm in SE23.
For blocked drains further down the system I also have a set of rods - came in handy a couple of months back but it was a nasty and challenging job. But pleased to report they can be strapped to the top tube of a bike.

this morning you saw Shinscar
Thanks for that Jonny - it reminds me of the time I described to an ornithologically-inclined colleague some weird birds I had seen at about 3.30am flying among the trees by a gravel pit in darkest Buckinghamshire as I was riding from Oxford to London back in June. "This morning you saw nightjars", I was told.
I'll know what to shout next time. I came up Asylum Road today, reminded by having read yesterday a law report about a couple (Mr & Mrs Ogilvie) who were retired innkeepers and were trying to avoid being evicted from the very fine Asylum for Decayed Licensed Victuallers down there.

a spinny spinny polo bike emerging from Asylum Road onto the OKR this morning, rider in a black jacket with black Timbuk2 bag and black hair, riding a dark burgundy frame with interesting brakes on the rear - kind of like the BMX-style ones that sat under the chainstays of some early mountain bikes and got mightily clagged up, but mounted on the seatstays.
I admired your acceleration away from the lights - you won't have seen me, as I am in slow mode after about 6 weeks off the bike due to illness.

Doing things on the cheap again, I've picked up an old PC, keyboard, mouse and monitor for my daughter's A level studies. It's missing a cable to connect the monitor to the PC (the sort that has blue bits on usuall) and wonder if anyone here has such a thing kicking around that they could bear to part with?

Hi, how much would you want for these 6 CDs and a box set? (You'll remember we talked ambient and penguins when I collected the turntable!)
DEVO - Hot Potatoes (The Best Of Devo)
David Bowie - Low
The Orb - Peel Sessions
Cluster and Eno
Brian Eno - Discreet Music
Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Preludes, Airs and Yodels
Fred Deakin (Lemon Jelly) - The Triptych 3CD Boxset (5GBP) -
Hi, I'm sorry to be a pain but:
(a) a discussion with Mrs R this weekend about the number of bikes I already have; and
(b) the imminent swap of my Mezzo D10 folder for a Cannondale Hooligan;
has convinced me that it would not be a good idea (in terms of peace and happiness in the R household) for me to do an n+1 at this stage. I must therefore (with a heavy heart) undibs the SG frame and let whimdriven step up to the podium.
Cracking frame and excellent price...

Indeed - I nearly bought a pair of wheels with red DP18s at Herne Hill a while back but foolishly thought I'd hold out for some CXP33s. Any chance of having a look at them?
My first reaction on seeing this bike was to want to buy it, but then I realised that the only reason I wanted to buy it was because it was so similar in size, build and style to my existing road bike (a Pogliaghi) and that it would be daft to build up a collection of almost identical road bikes. But my Pog has rubbish wheels...
