Got a new Brompton S6 last October. Anyone else find that the pedals are not very long lasting? Mine started to creak after about 6 months. This was after riding in the rain which indicates poorly sealed bearings. I see the replacement rh pedal is about £6 though I can't bring myself to buy it as I know it will start creaking again. Tempted to just put normal flat pedals on it.
Overall I'm not that impressed with the quality of some of the components for a £1000 bike, but I guess new pedals and brakes would improve things.
In any case it has become my default bike as the front bag is so far superior to any other backpack/pannier option I've tried for commuting.
If anyone is going to lock theirs up I would recommend taping your D lock with bar tape, as my seat tube is really scratched up from doing this everyday. Paint is resistant to chips but not rubbing it seems. It really shows on the lighter colours (e.g. Sage Green).
Also watch the chain wear carefully - I left mine too long and had to change the small sprocket (which wears quite fast), after only a few hundred miles (again, riding in poor weather didn't help).

Have you actually tried to imagine how someone would get a bike in that position?! I suggest everyone tries it at home. It's quite difficult as you have to be one side or the other of it, or flip it onto the back wheel and sort of shuffle around it. Then to get it into the hook you have to lift it up, but you can't do that easily without grabbing the fork or something to stop the bars flopping.
You won't be able to hold the rear brake so if the bike is balancing on the rear wheel at any point when you stand to the side, it will tend to roll away from you. Also you can not place more than one hanger side by side without a large gap between to do the above shuffling, and to remove the bike.
The design that hooks the front wheel on the wall at head height addresses all of the above, and it's compatible with almost any bike that has a front wheel. It's quite easy to do, even with a bad back or a heavy bike because you remain behind and close to the bike at all times. In contrast this design will fit just a few types of handlebars and will be difficult to use.
What exactly are you trying to improve on with this? Perhaps you should consider a refinement of the front wheel hook system instead?
Also I just remembered - if you lock the back wheel with a toe strap almost any bike will sit against the wall in this position without a hook...

Handsfree is cheap, but ineffective. The greater problem with phoning while driving is not the physical act of holding the handset, but the mental distraction of trying to hold a conversation with a distant party.
my work just gave us the 'company driving policy' involving the usual statistics etc, then told us we can't use any phones, including hands free when driving for work. Fair enough I thought, but what about sat navs? No, that's ok we think. Eating a sandwich? er, that's not covered either. I guess the phone is the only thing they would be blamed for in an accident, sigh.

Hey guys, I came down from Glasgow and played with a few of you just before the UK Champs. I'm looking for a team for the London Open. I've booked travel already but my normal team mates can't make it. Ideally I'd be looking for a moderately competitive team that doesn't take themselves too seriously...
Cheers, Dan

Maybe look at womens specific lacrosse gloves as they're definitely not as bulky but have the padding.
Anyone have any specific experience of women's lacrosse gloves - like what is the sizing and protection like?
Also, what kind of shin pads have people tried that would be compatible with existing knee pads (i.e. don't come up too high). I really like the side padding on my knee pads (661 Kyle Straits) and find that the shin/knee combos don't have this.

Good cranks experts are here BTW!
I intend to bring my old MTB back from france.
Otherwise, any recommendation for "cheapo/reasonnable" quality MTB cranks would be appreciated.
Sugino/Stronglight XD-2 would be perfect for this bike, and only £35. Spa sell it without rings too for £20. Great quality for the money and certainly not heavy.
I suspect that the square taper was damaged from being slightly loose while you performed all these bunny hops. Unlikely to be a problem if properly tightened and regularly checked.
I would keep the road crankset for a modern road bike - it would look incongruous on this bike.

Good spot, the price is right as well. This could be the one. I'd like to see what a large looks like fully built up.

Might have missed this, but does anyone feel that having a lower top tube (e.g. sloping) as opposed to horizontal is advantageous? I'm thinking a) if you slip off the saddle you don't land on sensitive parts and b) when you need to bail you can hop over the top tube easily.
I guess I just don't see why that bike doesn't have a sloping top tube. Something to do with construction methods?

eVent is actually a very effective breathable fabric.
Yep I have the Rab Drillium which is an eVent shell. I was disappointed until I discovered that washing and treating it regularly with the Nikwax wash and re-waterproofing stuff regularly means it stays waterproof and breathable. I would not recommend ironing it as it says to do on the label!
The eVent shell is expensive but the breathability is pretty good and it's thin enough to actually wear when you are cycling in the rain (unlike most riding jackets which are really warm).

I'm trying to find another one for the cheapest price possible. Have looked at french vendors, wiggle and crc but could'nt find anything lower than 120€. Would you happen to know about a good price on it right now somewhere ? I'm not familiar with most UK web shops.

To everyone complaining about it being expensive/far away/too close the the euros...
remember that it works both ways. All of us in the north who may or may not be dedicated polo players are essentially excluded from participating fully in the UK polo scene, because it is centred around London and places within reach of London.
This is entirely understandable and the London players have made great efforts to push polo forward in the last couple of years, but just try to imagine it from our point of view. If we had gone to the euros, and this tournament happened in London, then we'd have done even more travelling to attend both.
If it's a UK tournament, then some people will have to travel the length of the UK to attend. As there is a southern bias in terms of numbers of polo players, then it's fair that more tournaments are in the south. But they can't all be arranged in that way.

ah I see the groups have been renamed to reflect the start time now.
So A,B and C refer to the courts which were 1,2 and 3 today?
