Thanks for the kind offer Cupcakes but I'm unfortunately not around next tues. If I haven't spoken to you before then, I'll come the week after. It's been quite a while since I've been to any of the 'Beers' so I reckon I might have to do a full week and visit them all!
And thanks for putting everyone back on track with the topic of the thread, you're right, I'm after just the levers (which appear to be found), the freewheel and then I'll have a tinker with the other bits and bobs I have.

Trade: My Charge Plug trick bike (or road going if you want it set up like that).
Charge Plug frame in good nick
DMR Trailblade forks (or original Charge Whisks in Blue)
BP18 700c on Miche sealed hub on the back
Velocity 26" on Magura (I think, I'll have to check) sealed front wheel
Atomlab bars
DMR pedalsThis is a really strong and hard wearing bike. Never had any problems with it, apart from the left crank (there reasonably cheap cranks) and the left has worn. Needs replacing really.
I've moved out of the city now and would like something for cruising the countryside on. Something old and steel, preferably 531 but will consider anything.

@Ed: thanks for letting us know about your bizarrely timed bubblebaths! Not too sure about the bar end shifters as I hardly ever use the drops, I just cruise on top of the brake levers.

why not keep an eye out for a cheap group on here? 8 speed and 9 speed groups don't fetch muich when they come up.
Also, what spacing is your frame? (sorry if this has already been covered...) not sure but I think if it's less than 135mm between dropouts you will struggle to fit 9/10/11 speed.
I really don't have much money - as in I have none and whatever I want to buy I will have to sell something in order to have the money for it. So the cheapest way to get set up is to buy a pair of second hand STIs, a 7 spd freewheel and a second hand rear mech. It shouldn't cost me more than £70-80, but I imagine an 8/9 spd groupset is going to come to rather a lot more than that, not to mention I'd have to replace the back wheel as well, which is another large expense.
My frame is an 80s Raleigh Record so, without checking, I'm pretty sure it's 125mm spacing.

He's a bizarre little fella for sure! He's from two family dogs and due to the cross breeding doesn't have a jot of working dog in him. He can get really worked up if you play fight with him, but in general he's very docile and loves to sleep A LOT! He's also a bit a strange will affection - he loves having a cuddle if he's tired and he loves attention but on HIS terms! Most of the time if you go and lie with him he'll stand up and go find a spot out of reach of a human!
Oh, and he loves eating plastic and rubber. That space hopper toy was found in bits in his poo all in one day. At one point it looked like he'd developed the amazing talent to shit bright orange!
Here's a link to some vids of him on Youtube

I think I must be explaining this pretty poorly as I'm being told things I know and am prepared to do.
I'm trying to upgrade to a more comfortable ride and to do that I fully expect to have to change my rear wheel, derailieur and a few other bits. It would be nice if I could run 7 speed so that I only need to replace the freewheel and not the whole wheel, but at the same time I don't expect there to be many Sora brifters knocking about.
@knowthejo: cheers for the DIY suggestions - I'm a massive fan of mashing up bike parts to make them work how I want them to, I just hadn't considered this to be an opportunity but now I see it is. First port of call, the hardware store!

Well I'm currently running a double on the front (36, 50) and a 5 speed freewheel on the back, so whatever I do I will prob have to buy a new back wheel/cassette and I can whatever I want as soon as I know what shifters are being offered.
@Brickman: can you post a link please cos I'm not sure what you're pointing to.

I get so pissed off with these insurance companies. So many have clauses in their policies which basicaly stops most being from being eligible for a payout when they most need it. Surely this is a crime against humanity?
I read all of the T's and C's of the PetPlan insurance (I think all of them have this clause) and it states that you're pet is only covered if it has a dental every year. Who does that as a standard proceedure for their dog? As far as I'm aware, not many, which means so many people will be out of pocket after spending of money and years on their insurance.Does anyone else think it might be worth putting money aside into a pet fund rather than paying for insurance?

Does/has anyone have/had coffee at Fernandez & Wells on Beak Street near Oxford street~ish? I had a friend who used to work there and got free coffee occaisionally so always thought it was amazing. Just wondered what the "educated" thought of it!

They're great little pets, but often very mischieveous. Ours believe the carpet is grass and constantly try to graze on it!
