Two fingers on my left hand are still tingling and slightly numb after my miserable day out yesterday. Will write up my when at my desk computer. What a terrible day out
set off with the intention of doing my usual sat early doors hell of ashdown which works out to be around 70m.
had a bit of mere as i was waiting in St Pancras for a train to london bridge but it was only after waiting for 10 mins did i think something was wrong as no trains on the board were stopping at london bridge. found someone eventually who was able to tell me that they weren't stopping there so had to faff around with my oyster card reimbursement then get myself to london bridge. got that sorted then realised i had a puncture. things weren't going too well!
eventually i got started but it was tipping down with rain. the wind was picking up too and it wasn't long till i was wishing i was anywhere but out on the bike. my feet and hands were like blocks of ice and i could hardly use my brakes it was getting that bad. only had one day as bad as that before and that was doing LEJOG in winter in November.
cut a long story short i bailed at Tunbridge wells and sat in the toilet for the whole way back with my hands under the hand dryer trying to get some warmth back into them. can't wait for the summer, fuck this shit.

this looks quality.
without being able to do any research (at work and majourly busy) how 'easy' is it do this?
in terms of:
a) how to get to the start
b) how expensive is accommodation
c) can you do it without a car?i'm keen to do this but can't help thinking that it will be nigh on impossible to just turn up with my bike at calais and hope to get to the start, do the ride, then stay somewhere etc (how would i carry my spare clothes?!)
unfortunately i think i'll have to accept that it will be too hard logistically....unless i'm wrong

I find Kent and Surrey pretty easy unless you specifically loop round a small area, whereas Herts/Bucks/Sussex have shorter but more constantly occurring drags and climbs however you plot your route.
yeah i'd agree with this too, but not the bit about kent and surrey being particularly easy! i always wonder why my average speed going round herts isn't higher but seem to forget the long drags where i can't really get about 14-15mph!

well done everyone on your fast times.
thanks for the race report sparky as well, was looking forward to hearing how you go on as i've been following your training with interest.
well done slimjim too, thats a rapid time. i had issues with my ITB's as well, just get a foam roller off sports direct for 10quid. make pain your friend and use it in the evenings. it hurts like a bitch and you'll probably squeel like a girl but it will honestly get better.
ive got my mara in 6 weeks and longest run i've done is 11 miles so i suspect i'll be in a whole world of pain like sparky come mile 20.
