The Hard Day in January Reliability Trial 2013.
Saturday 19th JanuaryFor 2013 the event routes will start from the Hounslow clubroom at Staines Sailing Club, the main ride will go to the Big H Café at Berinsfield (85 miles) and the cadet version will be to Marlow (45 miles).
i don't want to sound stupid here but i take it the ride is a loop and we will be coming back to staines?

yes i'd like to have a go at putting in a good time, altho for me its mostly a jaunt with some mates who won't be taking it as seriously so will be pushing the 10hr+ barrier.
good idea on the 28t for the steep climbs. i saw one guy snap his chain trying hardknott. poor fella slide down the road still clipped into his bike! i couldnt manage it myself and ended up walking. managed wrynose though somehow.
bit of a disappointment with the weather in 2011 tho and i ended up getting three punctures and having to buy a spare inner tube off a spectator!

So anyone in the book for this? I've done it before and planning on getting my entry form in again today. It's a tough ride and well worth the effort of getting up there. For £40 I think it's great value too and all the proceeds go to charity. Overall it's a 112m sportive that takes in all the big climbs in the Lake District, some going up to 33% gradient! Be warned!

anyway my weekend ride
road home to see my parents in stevenage on sunday morning from finsbury park. what a terrible route i chose as i had to go to mill hill to buy something from a shop that they didn't even stock (thanks mum). anyway thought the easiest and quickest way was going up the A1 all the way to mill hill. what a terrible idea that was. absolutely horrible tight rope cycling on the white line hugging the curb whilst cars rushed past at 70mph. also due to the 'main road' aspect of the a1 i found myself in the middle of fast moving traffic following the signs towards mill hill (see pic below). won't be doing that in a hurry.
does anyone know a decent route north from finsbury park to hertfordshire? i usually go up hornsey road to muswell hill, then cross over and go up the B550 to whetstone, then barnet, then south mims. anyone think of anything better? i've done up the a10 too, and that was equally horrible, both the 'old' a10 and new a10.
overall this weekend i got in 25miles on the turbo and 35miles on my route to stevenage.

Finally back in after clocking close to 110m I reckon after getting back to finsbury park then heading to clapham and back. Crossing the river 4 times!
Thanks to oli for organising a great ride with not a flat section on it! Definitely had me wishing I'd have done more hill work!
Great company and looking forward to seeing you lot on future rides.
Also Tony I hope you still have all ten digits in tact! -
haha you're keen! do another weekend!!!
