did two loops up swains lane and down highgate west hill in times which i was happy with and only 1 second between each run up swains lane (which is consistent anyway!). will start to do this at least once a week until i'm doing multiple laps up swains.this week got the 2x running home then some more running planned next weekend

haha i liked your description there dan very good.
well ive sent a mail to the organisers and they said that if 20+ people turn up on the day then the event will go ahead as they will be able to cover their costs and make a small donation to charity.
he also said that the event has never been cancelled since it first started in 1954! so it seems that the weather will have to do something biblical for these hard bastards to not go out.
i'm undecided. primarily because i'm using these rides for training, so if i can't go fast and attack the hills etc then i'm sure there's something else more worthwhile i could be doing (like a long run etc) that will benefit me more. plus i don't want to be too reckless and really risk injury. i mean i did lejog last year in winter and cycled in snow and vowed never to do that again...

anyone still up for this? considering the hard day in jan ride was cancelled i'm sure it wouldn't be too wise to go out this weekend outside of london and haven't even looked for any info on whether it's still on. i'm tempted to go if it's still on, but depends very much on what happens tonight/tomo with the snow

hey jim, check out the ball buster duathlon - run 8 miles round and over box hill, cycle 24 miles over and around box hill, then you guessed it, another 8 miles around and over box hill again. that is TOUGH! a mate came 8th but he's seriously fit.
don't underestimate how hard it is to start running again after cycling!

I'll give that a go tonight, only issue is it being lane swimming you cannot really stop and tread water until you want to go again.
i'm no expert by any means but i went from swimming 1 to 2 lengths a go to being able to do over 1500m non stop in two months by swimming as much as i could each session and trying to just improve my distance each session.
where bouts in london you swimming then? i'm going to ironmonger baths pool. also by some of your other posts it sounds like you're training for a triathlon, if so which one?

easy all
been following this thread with interest over the last few weeks, just haven't gotten round to posting....
training for an ironman in june so getting back into running after a bit of IT band issues that were knocking me out for a few weeks at a time. got a foam roller and even tho it hurts it seems to be doing the trick. hope to start upping my mileage now.
got marathon in april too so working towards that.
currently knocking 5k's at 21:XX hope to get that down to sub 21 in the next month or so.
will be posting more now that i'm back running. if you fancy hill reps round north london let me know...

... also, if anyone needs a lift from North London (I'll be going round the N.Circ from Southgate) I'll have room for 3 or 4 bikes but only one passenger in my small van. Let me know
Might be up for this Ian I'm based in Finsbury park so would like to provisionally dib the front seat. Can talk to you more about this tonight

In and out of North London I usually go High Barnet - Potters Bar (using Kitts End Road and Baker Street, not the A1000) - Essendon and then onwards. The A1 and A10 are grim, but pretty much all the roads between them are OK.
that's not a bad idea at all. at barnet i usually go down a1081 (st albans road) and blast it down there in TT mode till i get to south mims services, swing round the m25 roundabout on the footpath (that bit is really shyte) then blast down the old a1 next to the a1 which is a 3m quiet unbroken road which is another good place to TT it.
will try your way going to see my nan in hertford, can't believe i go up the a10...

hey budd, i'm actually doing finsbury park funnily enough. it's right on my doorstep but if hampstead is hillier then i might check that out one weekend. but i'm usually running late for these things so don't want to be in a mental rush on saturday trying to find the start!
would be interesting to know whether park run have a league table of what are its hilliest courses as i've got a couple of friends who are like 'mine is much hillier than yours' etc etc
