Yeah, saw this story - sad news.
Will a helmet make you less likely to get knocked off? Lots of food for thought on www.cyclehelmets.org
If you've not done this or similar already, you could think about signing up for a couple of hours FREE with these guys:

Testimonial from someone I know who has been on it: "Went on this tonight, and it was interesting and I learned a few things about road positioning in traffic. I was pleasantly surprised by the difference it made to being not getting hemmed in by cars. Actualy felt like i had control of the cars in some situations."
(Note - I don't work for BikeRight).

bought some of the Endura BaaBaa ones from Wiggle last year and they've been very good. quite thick, so very nice for winter. wiggle vouchers that pop up now and again will bring the baselayers down to about £23 each or so.
Been using BaaBaa Merino socks and arm warmers the last few cold rides. Awesome.
Will be getting one of their base layers too I hope.

i am not sure i would wear a poppy with pride; what would i be proud of? Other people's actions? Not my bravery, not my sacrifice. With sadness and gratitude perhaps but mostly with anger and with shame that britain still sends people to die needlessly in immoral and illegal wars and the criminals that do the sending get to stand by the cenotaph, faking their dignity, and, if they are really going for it, crying a crocodile tear or two.
It's not the british legion's fault that honouring the dead of the first and second world wars is used as none too subtle propaganda for whatever hideous conflict the government of the day has got involved in but it is and it always has been. I don't think josh is wrong to bring this up. He certainly needn't be shouted down for it.+1

can anyone recommend me a decent coffee place in manchester city centre?
I've tried a couple but not been blown away by any yet.
This google hit has given me a few more to go and try out.
www.hasbean.co.uk has been looking after me rather well in the meantime.

After a tough swim this morning i had no plans to ride, but such a nice day so i headed out at lunchtime on about the only route i know well (a lfgss'er explained it and it's great) up here.
Once thru Stockport & New Mills i was in some of the nicest scenery in the country & a long climb towards Glossop gave a great view as i turned and headed to Charlesworth. Perfect day for riding today.
Club ride tomorrow, flat 'n fast. Brutal.

Ok, my picture was on the front page of the Guardian, in 1985, standing next to someone more famous than me
I always kinda hoped you were the Fruitbat, of USM and beating up Philip Schofield fame.
BBC Radio Coventry & Warwickshire
Twice for me.
Not bad I suppose, but I've left my trump card in my back pocket. I went back stage to meet Cannon & Ball in 1985. Read it and weap....read it and weap
Sang on stage with them.
freddie mercury knocked on my mums door a she shut the door in his face, then he knocked again, she did it again (she didn't think he was real) then she went up to her room and when she came down he was sat on the sofa with a drink, she then sat next to him and touched his face, because she was high and thought she was hallucinating

I gave Mobo winner Soweto Kinch a lift from Brecon to Birmingham once. We stopped in the borders and played some pool, the locals had never seen a anyone like Soweto before, it was very random.

I avoided this price hike thankfully. My 12 months are up and my employers are taking a payment from my next pay packet so that I own the bike, and that's working out as about £35 on a £600 or so purchase.
Unfortunately, my flat mate who works for our county council and was a few weeks behind me, has just today been stung for £155 on a £650 purchase!
He's not happy.
That'll be 'cos the County Council is skint, whereas where you work isn't.
You should buy your housemate a beer to cheer him up.

Hi, Am after some Kid friendly wheels with tyres for puncture repair lessons in schools, so 26" or 24" MTB ones.
I had 9 in Cov but lef them there for the person taking over.
Anyone working in a bike shop in MCR etc who can help? Or just got some lying around? I can collect, am Chorlton way but can travel.
I've tried in Bury's (edit - where I work) town centre mega-shop (Leisure Lakes) but no joy. Worst case I'll buy new and cheap from PCF, but this is a bit wasteful.
Thanks.

Was chatting to a colleague the other day who knows a bunch of MTB'ers who fit their Chris King headsets upside down... just to piss off the perfectionists out there in bike land (and to be cool of course).
I'm wondering how many in this thread would have to correct that? ;)
