For a train ride you could avoid the foam tubes probably and if you had a padded suitcase you could fly with less tubing as well.

If its not clear from the photos i left the rear wheel in the rear triangle and only removed the from wheel and had a dummy axle in the forks.

My dream scenario is to offer a folding monster rinko gravel thingy at some point.

I am thinking the rear ends, yokes and forks could be done in batches and then it's only the front triangle that is custom geo.

I could also sell these rear ends to be retrofited to already made frames

This is doable. I am thinking about offering up my own design for the frame but with a similar detachable rear system. I need to do some more testing and make sure everything is great but then maybe...

Tenerife is lush. But the kids got sick on the plane and now my wife is under the weather so no actual cycling yet. Hoping I get away untouched. I fucking hope I didn't make and bring this bike without getting to try it. The bike did make it down here without any issues and is still in mint condition.

I could definitely afford it but I would need to sacrifice something else. Fewer bikes for example. Also I like the environmental aspect of restoring, repairing and generally keeping older nice stuff like 10sp alive.

This is why i have never ridden electronic gears. I don't want to fall in love and then realise it's an expensive amouré

Got started on the 650b bike packing thing

This looks so boring in the photos but trust me it's gorgeous IRL. Can't wait to shoot some photos of it in the Tenerife sun with my orange Wit Slingers slung over the handlebars.

I went for my Nitto stem instead of the olive drab one. Feels like it's balanced nicer now. I absolutely love the textures and tints of the materials used here.

The XT rear mech needs a little help (goat link 11) to go to 46t but it works. I have used a similar setup on my cargo bike and it's been great.

I am now running 38t / 11-46t which should be ideal for this sort of bike.

Getting the components I already own to match and give the desired gear range was a pain but it seems to work and friction shifting is obviously great for a utility vehicle.

After stressing out just before NYE and working in poor light conditions I decided to bring the AWOL back into the workshop and get the gears running. I have decided this is not a bike I need in my stable and therefore I didn't want to spend any money on it but use what I already have.
This is annoying but also fun.

Anyways, I suddenly remembered I had an old Suntour friction bar end shifter and after some faffing I decided to file it to open up the lever rotation allowance so I can get enough cable pull to move the 10sp xt rear mech the entire 10sp 11-46t range.

I think you went the wrong way? Or you are trolling. There's loads of examples in this thread with compact bars and tektro SS levers
