I wanted a Crust Evasion for ages but getting one over here is silly money, the Stooge is different enough that I won’t forever be annoyed I compromised and has a charm of its own. An All City Gorilla Monsoon was the other option but the idea of a QBP rip of the Evasion wasn’t sparking joy.

It was the German couple flying from Argentina to Brazil to get a €700 part fitted in the continent’s only approved shop that put me off.

As a counter we also met many, many happy Rohloff-ers but when it goes wrong you’re pretty stuck.

I also saw enough broken Rohloffs/belt drives to put me off that idea forever.

I’m running 35mm of spacers on my Straggler and the Rambler is +28mm so hopefully no more than 20mm.

Reach is -6mm and I currently have a 100mm stem. I was going to reuse my On One loops bars but am considering trying something else with 30ish degrees of sweep.

Frame isn’t in stock yet but once I’ve ordered it all probably start a thread.

I’ve been completely red pilled by the friction shifting lobbying group.

I was running Gevenalle/Retroshift indexed shifters on drop bars for years and liked how you can shift across the whole cassette so easily.

When I went to flat bars it was for a long tour so I wanted something robust, I started with them indexed but after some ham fisted mechanic works (by me) in Baja California Sur I was stuck with friction. It took a few thousand km to get the muscle memory but now I’m a convert.

Maybe I should try modern 12 speed kit but I can’t see what it would give me over this set up.

Still undecided on the stem - high stack/integrated Velo Orange type thing or the standard black Thomson. Seatpost will be titanium Thomson layback.

It will be 27.5x2.6 but I’m still looking forward to it.

It feels a little counter productive to get a new frame based on 27.5 but I can’t get on board with 29+, the wheels end up too big and look out of proportion unless on a long, slack mtb.

My next gravel bike will be a Stooge Rambler with 2.6” front and rear. I’ve done my time on 700x40mm, time to enjoy the squish life.

Kind of glad to hear they weren’t the Crust bars - would have been kicking by myself that I missed them - even if they are too wide to fit through my front door.

Off the back of recommendations here I just got 1kg of Guji Flip Flops delivered – just made a quick cup with the aeropress and it’s tasting great so far.

Are they Crust Jungle Runners? Also potentially interested if MisterMikkel doesn't go for them.

How much are you after for it? The Core model might be a bit too fancy - I have no idea if the shape is going to work for me so don’t want to spend loads.

This looks pretty suspect. Take off more paint around the join with a pen knife or emery cloth so you can inspect the tube properly. If it’s not cracked hammerite/nail varnish over the stripped area.

I’m looking to try an Ergon SMC saddle or something similar from another brand, any condition considered.

The Ergon selector tool says I should go for the narrower version but I don’t believe it. I normally ride a Brooks C17 which is 165mm wide.

Nice fix on the bendy tab and cool to see you got a fly press - your time per bend must have dropped by a huge amount compared to the hydraulic press.

I’m pretty sure it’s this one, I added the electrical tape as the self adhesive rubber pads were slipping when gripping a small blade.

Having a clear out and found this Lansky Professional sharpening kit and home made universal mount.

I think I only sharpend 5 or 6 knives with it.

Does anyone ride an Ergon saddle?

I currently have a cambium C17 which is 164mm wide. I measured my sit bones and they are only 105mm wide which Ergon put at the lower end of their small sized saddle.

How much should I trust the Ergon recommendation? I know they are a very different shape to a Brooks but it seems wild to go from such a wide saddle to the opposite end of the scale.
