In my opinon its safer. Especially on the odd occasion one might do the "lean foward to skid" & emergency front brake combo.

I did this twice during the holidays, however you'd have to have terrible reflexes not to realise you've lifted the wheel and either plant yourself back on the saddle, or release the brake a little (I was getting used to skip stopping over the holidays so was in the habit of lifting the rear wheel when getting ready to stop).

I find it much easier to ride when cold, when it's warmer I dehydrate too quickly, wait and see until about May when i'm struggling to keep up with you guys due to the heat =P

I've got a pair, but my legs if anything get too warm when i'm cycling, so now I just use them as the cycling equivilant of tyre warmers, pop them on about 20 minutes before I go out, take them off as i'm about to leave then jump on the bike and go so my legs don't get cold =P

If you're cold while cycling, you aren't going quick enough =P
