no Balki, the labrador is penetrating the narrower jack russell, just as the teeth of a 1/8 cog try to penetrate the spaces in the links of the narrower 3/32 chain. you must think more about this.
Just imagine a circular labrador with 14 - 19 cocks repeatedly penetrating a very long, articulated jack russell with hundreds of anuses.
That is, without doubt, the best analogy I have seen in a very long time.

The wife is finding her new bike to be just a tad long in the reach department, so I'm looking to see just how short I can make her stem and will move her seat forward slightly which will make things about perfect I think.
From what I've seen online most quill stems seem to start at about 70mm - does anyone know if you can get more like a 30-40mm stem, and does anyone have one? I'm not sure if there are different bar clamp diameters in quill stems or not, if there are I can get the bars measured and report back.
Another option is some swept back moustache type bars, so if anyone has any ideas in that department please post/pm also.

Has anyone ever had their bike nicked or tampered with when it's been secured by one of these? Are they any good as I can see no reference to them in this thread?
http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/catego...085-lock-14868
I have that as a simple deterrant, you can easily cut that with an angle grinder, having says that, what exactly are you going to use it for? if for locking something like frame and front wheel together, an small U-lock would be more than enough (Evo Mini).
They can also be cut with bolt cutters, my chain was literally cut through when by plug got nicked.

https://www.eta.co.uk/insurance/cycle/quote They were one of the few that would insure my bike whilst it being in my shed at home rather than in a garage/home
I insured my plug with them, and had absolutely no issues when it came to making a claim for it when it was nicked from the bike storage locker at home. They had no issues with cohabitation either. I haven't tried insuring anything more valuable however, and don't know what their opinion is of home-built bikes from old frames etc.

Cheapest - Zenith £40.80 [pair]; Formula/Xero £39.45 [pair]; SJS £39.99 [pair]
Does anyone know the axle length on these? trying to work out whether they're able to be spaced out to 130mm without running out of threads for the axle nuts.
Some websites say yes, some don't say at all, so would be good to know etc.

If you're going to ride it fixed, you'll want the clips and straps, or to get a set of clipless pedals/shoes.
There's nothing quite like the entertainment of being bounced off the pedals when you forget that you can't freewheel, and land balls-first on the crossbar with your feet all over the place.
-
I had a freestyler until it got nicked. I really enjoyed riding it, it felt totally bombproof which is great since I'm on the other side of 100kg.
I would buy another one in a heartbeat, if they weren't nearly £200 more now than when I bought mine (paid £359) so that my insurance money won't cover it.

It was the latter, and looks like they're working towards it being the former. Such rooms are definitely a risk, but for that bike an acceptable one, it's why my £x000 mountain bike lives in the lounge, not that room.
I'm actually moving out in two weeks, so won't be availing myself of said room again. Hopefully insurance pays up so I can do a spot of post-wedding shopping :) have my eyes on a charge plug grinder I think.

Heh.. I live in Bethnal Green, building is 50's vintage, but was done up in 2000ish.
Had a chat to the porter this morning, they're installing a second magnetic catch down the bottom of the door, and he now has total control over what keyfobs have access - before that was done offsite, so any lost keyfob wasn't cancelled it seems. From the records though, they saw that someone went in with a keyfob at 4:15am on the day my bike was nicked, so it seems that that was the time.
-
Yup, looks like a big pair of cutters from the half link on the floor. See pic.
As far as I know no-one heard anything, my apartment is a few floors up from the room, so no chance of me hearing anything. I'll talk to the porter tomorrow and see what other stories he's heard.
Would I have fared better with a bigger lock? I doubt it.. given the heist happened overnight in a room not directly connected to any apartments, they probably had all the time in the world to get through anything. There are certainly no "nice" bikes left in the room that were left due to having a super secure lock.

Electronic lock still works... And no sign of forced entry. The current thinking (according to the note in the lobby) is that someone got their hands on a keyfob - they're deactivating them all on Friday and reprogramming ones that people request so at least they're doing something to try and stop it happening again.
Here's hoping they don't come back for more before Friday, although the bikes that are left in the room now probably have very limited resale value.

Very short steel stem, I'll grab that, pm on the way :)
