I did acknowledge that andy's wife's diabetes wasn't lifestyle induced (as it is type I). I have never encountered type I being lifestyle induced (unless you'd count diabetes as a secondary complication of another condition)
The vast majority of type 2 is lifestyle induced. A patient coming through clinic who truly does have a leptin mutation or pancreatic b-cell failure not caused by hammering themselves with sugar is a rare event at the moment.
And therefore this is where the greatest proportion of diabetes money gets spent
-
Ther are many types of cancer and levels of diabetes that are not brought about by lifestyle choice
The vast majority of diabetes is lifestyle induced. Type I isn't as its an autoimmune disorder. But type II is lifestyle sensitive. Its also a giagantic hole into which we all pour money as people refuse to accept responsibility for themselves.

sunshine for shady people! i really want a copy of that too! Slightly controversially i think they were at their best when they had a bassist.
When i get asked what sort of music i listen to i use AOR, christian fennesz and grouper as suggestions for people to check out. I rarely get people wanting to discuss music with me again after that.
-
+1 but they were never a hardcore band, no-wave?
Indeed. But i never have time for needless compartmentalising of genres. Also AOR had a stronger "punk attitude" than most punk/hardcore bands.
As for those other euro bands you mentioned, putting a number of them on in leeds killed pretty much all of my interest in those genres. Only kaospilot were any good and were true gents as well.
Today is all about THE MONORCHID and SKULL KONTROL. unfuckwithable.
I have been trying to track down a record for a while due to the lovitt empire 4 way split 7" with frodus, bluetip and the monorchid. The four band was the shivers and the track was woodie. It was pretty good and i have wanted to hear any of their other related material. They changed name to the ruby dare and put out "lurk late and strike straight" on scene police. Soulseek and torrent hunting has failed me. Anyone else heard this record/have a copy they could upload for me/is it any good?
danke! -
subjectivity fail.
I have been involved in DIY record labels and bands for the last 10 years. I love musics and embrace my snobbery and used to feel the sentiments expressed in the orginal post.
I am entirely happier now that i havent learnt that these things do not matter at all!
not one jot.
this quest for authenticity in music is unending and impossible and will eventually make you stop listenning to or enjoying music. Put more energy into finding the music you do like/creating music.and recognise that all of the people on your list of the angels of musical integrity have made compromises to get where they are or have worked an angle for kudos.
i.e Bjork calling brian chippendale into drum on a track at the height of lightning bolt mania or the obscene amounts of money bands of integrity are pocketting to reform and play events such as ATP (e.g. slint)Enjoy what you like. Forgot the rest, you'll not convert anyone to your way of thinking. It is unimportant. or choose the route of most resistance and spend the rest of music career grinding the enjoyment out of every note you listen to or play.

I give blood as often as they allow me too and had a very entertaining session reccently.
Myself and a elderly lady passed through the screening procedure and got stuck at the same time. For some reason i have a fascination with watching the needle disappear into my arm and was doing this throughout 3 failed attempts to poke a hole in my fairly sizeable veins. She finally got me bleeding by waggling the needle back and forth in my arm and off we go.
The rest of the donation went fine and i hop of the bed at the same time as the elderly lady and we both headed to the little refreshments area. We stand facing each other. Me, penguin in hand and her toting a coffee stood next to a waist high circular flip top bin. We make small chat for a few seconds before she passes out and collapses sideways through the lid of the bin. She stumbles and recovers, standing up with the bin on her head before finally totally collapsing to the floor. The bin disintergrates leaving her with a rubbish crown and the lid around her head like those cones vets put on post-op pets. This is achieved almost silently so i get the attention of the nurses and start helping the woman up, and scoop her glasses out of the bottom of the bin.
With her safely in the hands of the nurses i excuse myself and leave the donor centre. As i begin to unlock my bike i scratch my face with the arm i donated from and am suprised to discover my hand appears to be very wet. Confused i look at my arm and only to find i appear to be ex-sanguinating through the hole in my arm. The dressing over the hole has swollen to the size of a golf ball and blood is freely running off my arm so i amble back in to centre to be tended to.
More free biscuits and pop and a good lie down later and i finally get back to work with a set of very impressive track marks which developed into a wonderful scag bruise over the following days.
giving blood: a good laugh!

I have the same size thighs as some of the diabetics in clinic.
Mine are muscle due to cycling. theirs are due to fat content. I have yet to find the actual journal article but i bet our danish friends didn't look at thigh composition.also:
give me a good stats package and I will show compelling evidence that little finger length is more of a risk factor than waist circumference for CVD. I hate papers like that.
