Interesting is picking an area and viewing just incidents involving bicycles (Bike) and HGVs (Goods Vehicles).
A lot of them are the same incident, indicating the high correlation between the two.
That is really useful, every other map only shows the type of victim, so they feed the myth that cycling and walking are dangerous.
When you look at the HGV related fatalites in London, virtually all the victims are pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, maybe it is the trucks that are dangerous. -

Thanks DJ, I think a couple of glasses of wine helped me do a bit on radio5 live at 11.30 pm.British cycling membership is subsidised with a truckload of government and SKY money in the hope that they will win us a bucketful of gold next year. I suspect the subsidy will dry up after that.
Both groups (and CTC) offer very similar 3rd party insurance and other deals. The legal advice is good from all the companies invovled. We work closely with the BC recommended lawyers on HGV campaigning.
If you are in London, LCC offers local campaigning by local people. Beards, fluoro and helmets are optional. With BC you only get choice over beards.

Two cyclists have been killed by lorries at Bow roundabout in less than three weeks.

One of the best things to come out of TfL's Cycle Safety Action Plan are the Cycle Safety Working Groups which were set up when everyone realised that the origninal draft plan missed most of the important issues. These groups have reps from London Cycling Campaign, Roadpeace, CTC, London Councils, FTA and the Police as well as TfL staff.
At this group we have put HGV safety at the top of the agenda resulting in the chance to revolutionise driver training and maybe ensure companies are brought to accout. Last week, just before the latest tragedy, we proposed that road infrastructure, especially at major junctions, be put at the top of the agenda for future meetings.
We also agreed a new sub-group to look at cycling and casualty statistics. TfL and the Mayor claim that the rate of casualties and fatalities is falling, as the number of cyclists has increased dramatically in recent years. A recent blog by Danny Williams

challenged that view using Department for Transport data. My view is that the Transport for London data is far better than anything from DfT and I believe that the casualty rate is falling, but not nearly as much as it should. The main problem is that there is very poor information on how many people cycle, where they cycle and how far they go.A working group concentrating on cycle casualty data should give us better information and encourage TfL to invest in collecting more data about cycle use in London.

I am the wife of Brian Dorling who was killed on 24th October at this awful junction. I and our 3 children are devastated by his needless death on what is an appalling layout. We went to watch the reconstruction of the collision and whilst I was watching the traffic in 20 minutes 3 more cyclists were nearly hit. I said to the police and traffic engineer at the time that someone else will die. -

this is so sad, all our sympathies are with you and your children.We at London Cycling Campaign and other cycling groups have been sent a copy of a letter that a friend of Brian's has sent to the Mayor.
It concludes
"Please assure me, and those of us close to Brian, that cyclists will be warned they are entering a Danger Zone at this location and that alternative routes are provided and that suitable signage is erected.
I look forward to a positive response that may bring some recognition and comfort to his family and those others of us who are now without our friend."The whole letter is on our site.

Not again. Our thoughts are with this guy's family and friends.
I heard of this while in a meeting with Hackney Borough who are already rolling out training for all their HGV drivers, including on bike sessions. They are hoping to offer it to all transport operators in the borough and to make it a condition of planning applications that drivers delivering to sites should also get this level of training.

ah that's where I've seen them. they removed the roundabout and made a normal junction. not sure where they moved this trio to.
These fun-lovin' go-getters used to be in the middle of a roundabout. This is how they appear on streetview.
Local art critic, O Schick, asked the council to remove the sculpture and roundabout. So the council took out the roundabout but forgot to trash the sculpture. -
If the hole is big and has been there a while you may not have to prove that it has already been reported. Where is it, exactly? Maybe other forumgers have seen it, hit it. If you were on the ring road or north of it on A1 then it is a Transprort for London Road, otherwise it is Islingotn Council's.
Get a solicitor. There are quite few who specialise in cycle crashes, we work with Levenes. A solicitor will make sure you claim for everything possible, including time off work, alternate travel and their legal fees.
Get photos, of the pothole, of your injuries, of the bike etc.

Don't punch the old lady on the Boris bike, especially not with your right hand.
Next time expect people on Boris bikes to do stupid things, all the time. -

that sort of breakage should never happen in a one year old bike, or even a five year old bike. Has the bike been in crash already? Who was the last person to tighten up the handlebar clamp? If the bike hasn't been crashed before or interfered with then the bike shop should replace the handle bars and fix any other damage, if they want to send the bars away to the manufacturers that is their problem. Their duty to you is to sell a bike that is fit for purpose, and replace the faulty one immediately.
What shop was it?
