I took an old claud butler 1" fork into a bike shop asking them to face the crown to fit a new tange headset I had. The race on the crown wouldn't go on.
They were a little hesitant to do it suggesting to leave the frame too and they might have a headset that would fit.
Turned out it needed an Italian headset which they fitted, so all good.
They charged me £50 for labour which in a state of shock paid. It wasn't until I left did I think about it more. It doesn't take more than an hour to fit a headset. They didn't even have to take the old headset out. Have I been over charged?

Some how that photo makes it look bigger than I feel it is. Diameter is about as narrow as you'd want it for being able to get a bottle back in on the move. The height is quite good because you can get away without tightening it up every time unless on serious bumpy stuff.
They were £25 each new so £30 for both with postage as not in London.

I did this and it worked okay.
I did have to re-do one dropout on the fork as it just had that slight cross thread feel. I hadn't used the biggest diameter tube that would fit in the axle recess shoulder (I don't know what to call that little lip that the hub sits on while you put the axle in). I did again with a bigger tube and all good. I reckon use the biggest tube you can fit in there for the most rigidity/best chance of square.

Wise words, I do enjoy using the other tools so why not.
Think it is partly down to using an old work top for wood. Very seasoned and tough to whittle. Need to try some fresh wood.
Digging the spider spoon. Functional or only decorative?
Edit : meant to reply to @adroit

First go at spoon now I have a curved spoon blade. Really satisfying.
How do people feel about using saws, rasps and planes? Started a more complicated spoon and had a desire to use those to get it in to shape quicker. But you could do most of it with those and barely use a knife. I kinda feel like I will have cheated if i do it that way.

Does it!? So much to consider.
Going to look into @tuttonp 's suggestion.
