It seems that a few forum followers are upset that the Foffa Thread has been moved to a private thread. This was requested after it was discovered that not all of our customers read the long thread and get the wrong impression of what was going on. As we have taken on board what has been said on the forum and acted on some of the negative aspects, we would hope we deserve a second chance. So to have a summary of the good points and bad points posted*publicly*would keep it fair for all involved. I dare say that will spark comments again but if some one has a better suggestion please come forward directly with that.

It still seems a shame that forum users don't come forward to us when throwing accusations around that do actually effect the lives of others. Foffa Bikes is a new business trying to listen to its customers and riders alike in London and beyond. We are open to feedback but not slander or misinformed information that may effect the business.

We have clearly stated that the dealings with Ian McPherson is no longer in place. In fact Ian's behaviour and the feedback from forum users resulted in Foffa Bikes deciding to part ways with him.

As everyone is aware companies like us often provide their products to people to try out & use to give feedback on the design & feel of the item. Foffa Bikes has provided Joni (Wicksie) with a bike to be used for her polo playing so that she can give us feedback on the product first hand. That same offer goes to HarryMajor and Velolibre to try the Foffa Prima for themselves before making judgements on a product they have never tried. Simply get in touch and I am sure we can also provide you with a bike to try so that if you want to be constructive you can give us feedback to make it better.

Foffa Bikes is actually is trying to listen to its customers and follow up on suggestions of providing a better product for better prices without churning out chinese rubbish like the cheaper brands on the market, etc. We are also aware that not everyone can afford the services of shops like 14 bike co.*

For those of you that think you can do a better job than we are doing then please come to the shop and join our team as I am sure we would all love to provide a better product whilst at the same time make some money to pay the rent etc.

We are sorry to hear that some of you are not happy with you what you do. But at least give someone a chance to provide a service where we do actually listen to feedback etc.

We will be having another open night with more drinks, dj, etc. after the next critical mass and invite those of you that have not yet come to the shop to swing by and say hello.*

I appreciate the offer to try your bicycles, but I have no interest in doing so. You'll notice I haven't commented once on your buisness or your frames. The frames are probably built by Maxway, and if so are probably awsomely constructed. But thats neither here nor there. If they aren't and they are made in Taiwan you probably pay too much for them, and the quality could be very hit and miss.

I am not arguing about your buisness's merrits. I have kept my informed opinion private. Your post quoted above changes that.

What I am arguing about is the censorship of the content in this thread. As I have maintained from the outset we don't owe you a living, we don't owe you our silence, and you can't fucking well buy it from us by offering everyone who you think disagrees with you a frame.

You neither deserve nor don't deserve a second chance, and we (the forum) have no right or authority to offer or refuse it you. Public information should remain public, publicly generated content should remain in the public realm. The forum has no responsibility to protect your buisness interests, to offer you salvation, or conversley to ask for you to be shot.

Furthermore I think you should be ashamed for putting Wicksie in a position where she has to defend your buisness and where she has to take on an untenable position that leaves here reputation tarnished and character questioned. I think its pathetic you didn't try and do things properly through VB, and even more pathetic that you want to censor your past and peoples opinions on your bikes and shop history.

I work for BLB, I know what your buisness practice is like, so I've tried to stay out of the discussion about the merrits of your buisness and bikes, as its not fair or professional. But since we are no longer in a publicaly accessible thread, I should say that from what you said above in that quote that you are a snake, and a fool. And yes, those are personal accusations. I'd rather shovel shit then come work for you, and I genuinely hope your buisness fails.

Yes I work there, yes I've defended the shop in the past, will continue to do so (probably), but, my opinion is not based on me working for BLB but on principal. Both of equal treatment for all, and of keeping publicly generated content public, but also not to bow to the interests of third parties. I'd have the same opinion no matter where I worked. Afterall, I'm only there Part time. Its not my buisness or my life.

My argument is one of principles, and freedom of access to information. I don't want a new thread, I want the history of this thread, created in public which allowed for a major development of foffa to remain where it was initally intended and had an impact.

Plus, if you want to be totaly pragmatic this isn't what darket is for, and starts a potentially worrying trend. I might just start deciding my Classfied adds belong in Polo for example.

My point is you google Foffa bikes, it calls them shit. They sorted themselves out, but people are very unlikey to read the whole thing because of pointless rants, so it does needless harm to someone business. This is apparently my fault, so I've done something about it.

Postmodernism is over and I have a vested research intrest in models of rhizomatic pedagogy (things like forums), so I'm sorry, but actually it is a big deal, at least to me, and if you think its a trivial thing and I think its really not then surely I should get my way because I believe in it more? You are right, they don't need it, but they have to live with it as long as this remains a capitalist democracy (I am not remotely marxist by the way - I really quite free, which is the political bias behind my argument if you care).

I'm bored of the convivial back slapping and piss taking thats taken over this place. Its nice to have something to actually want to type about, even if it is caused by a great injustice.

This isn't a question about Foffa's right to exist, this is a question about the public at large's access to publically generated information in a public forum.

I'll gladly defend Foffa from the petty bitchiness of this place if I have the time. But thats not what we are talking about. There was a kind of timeline, it kinda went like this:

1) Foffa made fairly shit bikes
2) The forum noticed point 1
3) The forum did what forums are good at and took the piss.
4) Genuine issues were flagged up.
5) Danni read the forums discussion
6) Danni took action based on reading the forum.
7) Foffa relsea a new frame
8) The forum likes the new frame and foffa alot more than it did before.
9) Overall attitude is positive

With the thread being here this process is hidden from the public. This information and opinion is censored to make it easier on someone who we have no responsibility to as an independant forum. Someone who, in fact, we have a responsibility to crticise as an independant forum.

And the decision to make this act at least appears to have been made by someone who does infact have a vested interest in this someone and this buisness. I've remembered what its called, its called corruption. Now it might not be, it might be a huge coincidence, Wicksie may geuinely believe what shes done is right despite being given a free frame and a pat on the back from Danni. But in cafes like EAT you aren't even allowed to serve your family to prote t you from accustations of corruption.

What am I saying here?
Three points really:

1) I don't agree with moving this thread here. Not only is it not fair on other shops, its also wrong to movea thread of criticism and bitching in a forum famed for its criticsm and bitching out of the public eye.

3) The protection of a buisness' financial security is not our concern, and furthermore ranks below provinding lots of indvidual opinion along side a evidence based history to the public. people have more of a right to know what happened (see lame chart above) and what others think of Foffa than we have a right to protect an (almost) unaffiliated enterprise's future income.

2) The person that made this decision, is affiliated with the shop in question and rightly or wrongly it stinks of corruption.

BLB are well established. Foffa are just starting. BLB have upped their game, maybe because there were being slated on here. Foffa fired their mechanic because of this thread.
Most of this thread was not from people's experience of them. It was a bitching session that got carried away. But they addressed the points that were mooted here and for that, I think they should be given a chance.
I love this forum, it's great in so many ways. But, this is someone's lively hood and it shouldn't be ruined because of a bitching session.
People won't read all the pages here so will be put off of going their because of problems that aren't there any more. That IMO isn't fair.
