Really tough conditions for Llanelli 1/2 this morning with a really strong wind coming in off the estuary.
Really wanted sub 1:26 to feel like I was on track for sub 3 in London but it just wasn't going to happen in that wind. I'm reasonably happy with 1:26:52 and it gives me a bit of confidence going into San Domenico 20 miler next weekend.

Unlikely I know but if you do fancy a visit to the seaside :D I've got this in Swansea you could have for £250, I'd usually post but just haven't got time at the moment.
It's 53cm c to c seat tube and 54cm c to c top tube. It's a Basso fior di loto frame that's had a slightly odd copper like powder coat, Tiagra wheelset, front is new and rear has a few hundred miles on it, Sora 9 speed shifters and mechs (new), unbranded chainset.
Only just been built up so has new chain/cables/saddle and bar tape.

Llanelli Half Marathon coming up this Sunday, feels like a big moment in my marathon training. I've had a strange couple of months where training has been a bit iffy but I've had pretty good races.
Llanelli is pan flat, weather is looking good, so no excuses. Think I've got to be looking at sub 1hr 26 if I've got any chance of sub 3 in London.

Bloody hell I won my first race!! O.k it was only a little local race but a win is a win :) 8k Fell Race in Garnswllt, perfect terrain for me with lots of hills and mud. Overtook the leader at the start of the final hill at 6k and ran as fast as my little legs would carry me :)
I would have a celebratory beer but I've got to get 20 miles in tomorrow, so beer will have to wait until tomorrow evening :)

I joined our local rowing club about two years ago with visions of entering long distance sea rowing races that they take part in, committee politics meant I didn't get to race but I did get taught to row and got slightly addicted to the pain that a Concept 2 rowing machine can inflict.
I'm no longer a member of the rowing club but I do now own a Concept 2. It's definitely helped my running, it's not made me much quicker but my race times have come down quite a bit as I'm far stronger in the final third of races.
I've been running for 8 years and have been saying for at least 4 of those years I'll break 40 mins/ 10k, 90 mins/ 1/2 marathon and 3hr 30min for marathon. I'm not saying it's all down to rowing but since starting rowing I've run 38.30 for 10k, 86 minutes for 1/2 marathon and 3hr 14 for Snowdon marathon.

10 miles done last night at 6.55 m/mile pace, 13 miles 'easy' planned for tonight, 10k of rowing on Thursday, day off Friday, 8 mile trail race in Brecon on Saturday and 20 miles at 7.20 m/mile pace on Saturday.
Starting to feel a bit more on track for London now, its my only fast marathon this year so I'd really like to go sub 3 in it.
I've got Race to the stones 62 mile ultra in July, Jungfrau Marathon in September and Snowdon Marathon in October. Just got to keep injury free :)

For 1/2 marathon distance I take one gel 10 minutes before the start of the race and then nothing passes my lips for the race. I found that I got no improvement from taking on water or gels but there was a good chance they'd give me a stitch or make me want to puke.
Marathons I can stomach one before and two ISO gels during, anymore and I'm back to stitches and puking after 18/20 miles.

Reading the Hansons book at the moment, might give it a go next year.
18 miles planned for Saturday, so cross country should be fun on Sunday :)
My wife had terrible knee pain right through Oct/Nov and December 2 years ago, no pain whilst walking but 2/3 miles into a run she'd be forced to stop.
Everyone was saying I.T.B but nothing helped, then a local rugby physio diagnosed a mis aligned sacroiliac joint.
It made a dreadful noise when he manipulated it but she was back running the next day. -
Tregaron half marathon on Sunday, after possibly the worst week running I've ever had I wasn't expecting much. Got there and it was white with frost everywhere and still below zero at 11am for the start.
It's a tough hilly course so I was really happy to go under 1:30 for only the second time, finished in 1:28 ish ( forgot my Garmin ) and my wife won the women's race in 1:36:04.
So a good day at the races :)

Smashed Snowdon Marathon even if I do say so myself :D went into it knowing it would have to go perfectly for me to get a good for age time for London.
Finished in 3hr 14 min 41 seconds so chuffed to bits :) 73rd overall and new pb by 15 minutes, so a good day.
To make it even better my wife was 9th woman and first in her age group :)

Swansea Bay 10k this Sunday, it's going to be perfect conditions and the sub 40 minute pacer is in the same running club as me.
I've only gone under 40 once before in a windy, hilly race, I'm pretty sure I've got a 38 something in me at the moment. Do I go for the safe option stick with the pacer and get a new pb of a few seconds ?
Or, do I go off like a scalded cat with the risk that I blow up and finish in 40 something but still clinging onto the hope that it all comes together and I blow my pb out of the water ?

Cracking time, what were you hoping for if that was you fading badly ?I'm hoping to get near 1:25 in Cardiff and then it's my favourite race of the year Snowdon Marathon :) don't know if I'll be able to but I'm going all out for sub 3:15 at Snowdon, so it will either be 3:14 something or 3:40 something :D
Thought I'd stuffed up big time yesterday, I'd usually have an easy flat run after racing on Sunday but as it was the only nice day of the week I had a lovely hilly 15 mile trail run around Gower.
Knew my achilles was a bit sore from the start, it didn't get any worse but I could feel it all the way around.
By the evening I was limping badly walking home from work and thought I'd stuffed up London, had a good session on a foam roller last night and have woken up to no pain at all :)
I'll rest today but I'm still hopefull I can race San Domenico 20 on Sunday :)
