Arguments about whether hitting the pavement with your head with or without a helmet just seem wrongheaded. Even if we take it as a given that helmets would mitigate head injuries, the important question should be 'which activities in my life have a decent risk of head injury'. Cycling is, I believe, quite far down on the list.
In the vain of keeping head smashing puns alive ... I agree, without concrete evidence I find legislating it farcical.

Much as I hate to perpetuate a helmet thread, I would be interested to hear more about these. I've heard stuff about how helmets could cause injuries, but no actual anecdotal evidence.
When I was about 15 (about ten years ago), friends bike literally fell in two while he was cycling back from school. Helmet forced his face into the tarmac, braking his jaw in several places, some nasty grazing. I wasn't there so I can't tell you how he fell, but he was told was told by the specialist it wouldn't have happened without a helmet.
He wasn't the only one, a similar thing happened to a kid who was several years behind me in school (except for the bike falling in two bit), I didn't know him that well, but he also had a broken jaw.
Pisses me off a bit, I saw an ER program the other day on sky while waiting for dinner, cyclist in the USA gets ran over by a SUV and he has NO head injuries (leg is completely busted and he needs a tube in his lung to drain the blood), but the commentator consistently said "he wasn't wearing a helmet", "he should have been wearing a helmet" etc etc.
I've personally managed to T-Bone a Transit van going at 30 miles an hour, and been ran over by a ford mondeo (me hitting the bonnet and going over the roof). No head injuries ... broken collar bone etc.
It is swings and roundabouts, there is no proof either way they are beneficial or harmful, so you cannot legislate on this.

Arch has lots of precompiled packages in a repo and a really good package manager - pacman. But it is also really easy to compile your own packages and install them. Arch has the AUR - Arch User Repository - where you can submit your own build files. Others can download and build their packages according to that.
I liked arch but the Arch Build System I was always too thick to figure out. I prefer ports on the BSDs, just make install clean.

Why? You want helmet wearing to be mandatory? Fuck that. You want to to wear a helmet? Go ahead, no one's stopping you. Like everything in life, assess your risks and act accordingly. I'm sure there are some cyclists that probably should be forced to wear helmets (actually it would be better if they learned how to ride better and improved their awareness of things around them) but I'm getting severely pissed off with the constant introduction of legislation in this country to cater for the lowest common denominator of fuckwit.
+1
I have been run over twice and a helmet would have no made any difference to my injuries. I had friends who have had worse injuries**** because they were**** wearing a helmet.
It depends how you get hit as to what whether a helmet will help, do nothing or hurt you. If you wanna wear one, great, but don't make me wear one, it is my life.

ehem... overrated!
Perhaps you need to go in your local HMV and see what drivle is overatted and given awards, then come back to Entroducing. To you and I this Album is well known and enjoyed by the looks of it. But to the average Joe, it definatley hasn't got the plaudits it deserves!I certainly think it is overrated in the hip hop sphere. His private press album was a far better album. Personally prefer some of the Kleptones stuff his albums, but then I listen to streetsounds far too often.
Never chase after three things, buses, trains and women. Your only achievement is looking foolish.
