Here's the "London Loop/London orbital" walking guide
http://www.walklondon.org.uk/route.asp?R=5
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/walking/localroutes/1164.aspx
The site that the first linky belongs to also has 5 other walks that could be ridden a total of 362 miles all within the M25

If you can get to South London there's a Anarchist infocentre there. They have free bike mechanics and a pretty well stocked tool cupboard which you can use any of the tools for free (don't think you can borrow them though - as in take them away)

Think there might be one up in hackney too but I've never been there

hold on GA2G, were only talking about chains here, no fucking need to get all gobby.
on you tube there is a company called Almax, which cropped through all the best alternative chains to their own using a cropper.
these were seriously expensive motorbike chains, ones that you wouldn't want to carry around with you cos they weigh a ton.that's enough evidence for me not to buy chains.
I dont use a chain but prefer U locks so can't really comment on there effectiveness but I think on that alax vid they claim to be cutting through a fug chain when it's on a foursided link when eveyone knows the links on fug chains are six sided- so personally i wouldnt really trust there little sales advert

Minor thread hijack - For the past 3-4 months I've been getting stabbing / shooting pains around my sacrum and out across my buttocks towards the hips / down the backs of my legs (not so much up into the lower back).
I mentioned that I do accupressure on my buttocks to releive my sacroiliac joint injury. I couldnt tell what exactly the connection it but there's definately a muscular connection there
-
I have a long term injury in the Sacroiliac joint on my left side. I visit a chiropactor regularly. But I find the best thing to do is to stengthen the lower back area to keep on top of things. Yoga is great to do this but I simply do some back stretches followed by crunches every morning (about 160).
I also use accupressure. If you've got a willing partner all the better, lie face down and get your partner to use there elbow instead of a ball but if you dont have a partnet I use a cricket ball (a tennis ball is slightly better but will split eventually). Lie on the floor. Put the ball under one buttock and move it arround until you find a "knot" in you glut muscle then just lie in that position for a bit. You can then move the ball around looking for other knots or move the ball to the other buttock.

i'm looking for a mini d lock in addition to my kryptonite lock. So i don't want to fork out on an evo, especially as i think it would be better to have two makes of lock. So is thereany decent (but cheap) mini ds out there as an alternative to the evolution and that palmy lock?
Any help much appreciated, thanksThe onguard pitbull mini u might be good. It's got a double locking mechanism like the bigger krypto's have got which the evo doesnt

I carry my repair kit, spare tube, and a mini pump velcro stapped to it, all in one of those little bags you strap under the saddle. But instead of keeping it under the saddle I clip it through a belt loop. That way i dont have to think about removing it from my bike when i lock up (and consequently getting it nicked when i forget to remove it)

JF goes off to google glove base layer. TBH I'm not sure there's room inside my current glove, which is a Troy Lee XC, and vey tight. Plus the deFeet is only 14 squid. All the continental pro's use them
You could do like i do. Get a pair of fingerless woolly glove's from ya local market (mine cost £2) which go nicely over my spesh full finger summer gloves. keeps me hands nice and warm

anyone know of a jacket a bit like the 'fixed' jacket that is not so expensive? i'm after a nice smart black jacket that i can also ride in comfortably.
Have you tried a Harrington, like the skinheads used to wear

You can get em off fleabay pretty cheap
Here's a £30 version of rapha's £450 tweed soft shell from the same site

I live directly opposite burgess park. Never had any trouble during the day and i've neer seen groups of yoofs hanging around in there. Would never ride through there at night though.
+1
I'm going to start avoiding that little 'quiet route' from the edge of Burgess park (by the rugby pitches) to peckham sports centre now it's dark too.
I never walk or ride down that path either when its dark. Too many places for peckham loonies to jump out on ya.
-
The lock was given to me by a friend. It's not a D-lock, but what I thought was a pretty sturdy chain (Marksman, if that means anything to anyone) although after seeing it in it's cut through state perhaps it's more flimsy than it looks.
Really sorry to hear about your loss.
Was this the chain you meant by marksman?
-
Dont sweat it mate. I'm in exactly the same situation, underground basement garage under the building with a car roller shutter to exit/entry.
I have kept my bike there for a year and NOTHING has ever happened to it and i live in peckham. We too have had the odd oik following a car in and running under the rollers.
What you got to remember is the kind of person who is gonna run under the roller is more the opportunist theif (ie usually kids) rather than a power tooled up pro. So if you have got decent locks on your bike nothing is gonna happen to it.
I have a faghettaboutit mini u + Abus granit x through the rear wheel and frame and evo mini to secure the front wheel all locked up to a sheffield stand - so still have bike
There's plenty of other bikes less well locked up along with mine and only the numptys that hung there bikes on wall hooks next too there cars which you can simply unscrew the bolt to remove have had there bike nicked
