A mate of mine is having the following problem and has asked me to post it on here...
"Miche Primato BB?
I have an English thread 107mm BB that just will not screw into any of my BB shells, I've tried 4 different frames, i've measured the cups and frames and they are the right size, what gives?
I have a habit of applying a little to much force and breaking stuff so would really like to know if that's normal for Miche BB. "

If you mean my post it's a question not a point of view. As for snot-boy who knows why he thinks any of the things he thinks?
By asking "if anything" you are immddiately positioning yourself on the 'against' side of the argument so you are stating an opinion as much as asking a question.
Even aside from the good answers above as to what it has achieved you could also ask, why shouldn't people be allowed to attend take part in Critical Mass? Anyone who disagrees with the right to do it agrees with public censorship and police control of our freedom of movement

This is all I need to finish off the Raleigh, so I thought I'd post here before going shopping online :) Not London based, so postage would be fine, though I am down in the city for a few days starting a week Thursday, so I could pick up then.
Stem - For a 1" threaded headset, so is it 22.2mm internal quill yeah? Looking for chrome, something sleek and smooth, 80-100mm with a little drop would be nice. For 25.4mm bars. When you get an answer on this let me know
Seatpost - again silver/chrome. 27mm. Quite a bit of length to it.
Saddle - I want tan leather and I don't think I can afford a brooks so perhaps a charge spoon? WHY? I bit the bullet and got a secondhand brooks off ebay in the end for £35, that's only £15 more than the spoon.
Pedals. Um something old looking. Clips/Straps would be nice, but I have size 15/16 feet so I'm thinking I'd need large. ** MKS from freshtripe, with christophe clips and the brown elk hide straps, although they're out of stock**
Bartape - a long shot, to match the saddle!
brooks bartape is £30, freshtripe do a brown elk hide tape for £20, I'm getting the stitch on stuffHaving just about finished all the shopping for mine, here are some thoughts above. ps the wife thought your colour scheme of yellow and brown would have a certain toilet-esque feel to it!!!

This bottom bracket shell is now the only thing i am not understanding. I've had the threads checked and they are not 26tpi that raleigh used but, they are 24tpi which was used when carlton was their own company.
All i am unsure of now is what BB to fit. A carlton corsa frame with 120 rear spacing and miche primato track hub (42mm chainline) and sugino messenger cranks. Stated length to use was a 103mm axle.
Being a 71mm BB shell, what approach do i take?!! I can work out everything else with chainline, just not sure which BB will give me the best adjustment. English threads by the way. (sorry if thas obvious)
Once i got this cleared up it's the home straight i think!!!
Hmmm, I've got an old Raleigh frame and accoridng to SheldonBrown if the BB measurement is 71mm or 76mmthen the TPI is 26 not 24, if the BB is 68mm then it's a 24. I guess it may be different with your Carlton frame though as you've had it checked.

If you need to get old style Raleigh parts including 24 or 26 TPI bottom bracket components you can get them here

The frame was only £30, after I got a partial refund for the seller's misdescription on Ebay, but as mentioned, I've now spent (aarrgghh just checked and it's not £350) £400! on all the parts I needed.
You can see from the second photo what sort of state it was in before Armourtex applied their craft.

The Patient Method
Buy a full good quality bike in your size on eBay for up to £200. Keep the frame and sell the parts to recoupe all or most of the cost.
(Optional) Repeat, but this time sell the frame and the excess parts keeping what you really like or need.
If done correctly you will have spent £0-150 at this point and have plenty of your budget left to splurge on the final missing pieces.
This works because full bikes from the 80s often go for the same price as a decent frame. And the small parts on those bikes are in demand.
The Dumb Method
Buy an old frame with nothing fitted to it, casually thinking that you'll pick up the "bits and pieces" to build it up for a few quid. £350 and a lot of parts later that you hadn't budgeted for you'll have a nice bike but be skint and have the wife breathing down your neck about what the hell you're buying for it this time....!
