Don't buy a new bike. If you only need it for 3/4 years there are plenty of decent 2nd 3rd 4tth hand frames... No point in buying a new one then ruining it?!
Build it up with loads of mismatched parts.
Don't leave it anywhere you wouldn't park a car for more than 4 hours.
Get a decent (couple of) lock(s).............. -

One of my drivers just phoned in: Witnessed a guy stealing a carbon Bianchi (Celeste) form a rail in Shaftsbury Ave on the junction of High Holborn, opp the theatre. The theif walked up to the rail, whipped out a large set of bolt cutters and chomped straight through the Lock!!!!!! 4 seconds.... Either a parrot beak / fireman style cutters or a really really shit lock. Driver claims it was a D but wan't 100%.
By the time my guy was out of the van the cunt had vanished.
Be vigilant out there. -
@CB...Thanks dude. For specific answers I would need to give away more specific information. Something I can't really do at the moment which is why I posted here. A new thread would be the way to go and I'll have more details soon. I was just testing the water as such....
@Brave... What a place! Didn't even know they existed!I know On your Bike offer a similar service from SE1. Fortunately my Central London location postcode starts with an E :-)
Whats that film with the Monkee's in it? EVERYTHING STARTS WITH AN E?

If was to happen to have some space available for storage purposes in a relatively central London location, would there be a market for bike storage?
By bike storage that could range from:
Secure, manned, daily locking (for those who don't like to leave their machine locked in the street for a day)
Clean down service
Long term storage (for those with multiple machines that can't keep them all at home) I could offer access to machines throughout working hours during the week and at certain pre-booked times over weekends.....
Any thoughts (serious or complete bollocks) would be greatly appreciated..... -
@nelaii ....Nice to see people smiling in the morning. Makes a change from all the usual miserableness that goes hand in hand with a commute through town.... If I see you at the same time tomorrow then I'm late :-) Enjoy the sun!

[QUOTE=nelaii;2164746]Guy in forum jersey, about 8.20 Shoreditch High St, by the Tea building, came up from behind him and DAS'ed him, guess you didn't hear me... Then I smiled at you and I think that might have confused you even further.
No I didn't hear you!!!!!! And I suppose my watch must be fast too.... NIce to spot you though....like i said, i thought you were chuckiling at me talking to myself.... Have a lovely day!

A Lady heading towards Broadgate on Shoreditch high st at about 08:30 on a black track frame with risers wearing a Bern helmet. She jumped the lights with me and was chuckling away at something which I presumed was her spotting me talking to myself! Then thought it may have been the forum jersey which i donned for its maiden voyage this morning.
Nice smile lady :-) Say hello next time! -
I slipped mine (L1/L3) at some point after a long period of sporadic sciatic pain which i didn't realise until the leg pain started increasing. Same story as the OP (except you seem to be worse off than me)... Getting off the toilet was the worst thing imaginable.
After extensive physio I was finally reffered to the specialists and an epidural was administered.
A week or two afterwards i felt good, really well in fact (considering I'd been downing cocodomol for nearly a year, makes you fart like crazy that stuff)....... Anyway, I work in furniture and ended up having to lift on an imporatant job when i was meant to be supervising... The first box I picked up the disc popped out.. FUCKED. Now in pain again.... Back to Physio next week. Back / leg the works. Thing is I'm self employed so no sick pay, no paid time off... NOTHING...
Although after the initial physio I felt that riding helped loads. I did fit a brake after that though.... Too much pressure on the spine skidding everytime you need to stop.
Heal up well and take it easy.....
