What size wheels did it originally take? If if took 27" wheels the 700c should fit in there fine. This may seem like a silly question, but are you sure the forks aren't bent?

Kurt, if you did want a Dirty harry style lever they are a more bent version of the original Tech 99, A Tech 99 lever will be closer to the handlebar, if they do need adjusting they can be bent by heating them by pouring boiling water over them and CAREFULLY bending them. This is what we used to do with alot of BMX style levers before they started making levers shaped like Dirty Harrys.

If you have any carbon parts that took any impact be careful, carbon can be damaged but look absolutely fine, then can suddenly fail one day.

I presume they have accounts with various couriers and send whoever is cheapest or most convenient for them.
