I'd love a spot like this.
I was a fairly regular user of bothies before covid and have been looking around locally for possible spots where I could get my fix of relaxing with a tea by the fire in an evening when I'm not able to get to a hut in the hills.
I'd guess that the problems that "dirty camping" has caused over the last couple of years probably won't help with landowners attitudes towards gatherings like this, even if we are being responsible. -
@freezing77 @snottyotter Good to hear, thanks for the advice. I found some reasonably priced Avids on fleabay so went for them.

I'm not sure how many of the current jumps are original, it seems to have been altered since the 90s and the Alex Moul speed bump from the Rollersnakes video is no longer there.
There's a transitioned jump which is about 18" high which is good for beginners (or crap skaters like me) to get a feel for quarterpipes.

Disk brake newbie question:
Is there anything particularly bad/unsafe about the cheap (£10 or under) rotors that I see for sale? I have Tektro hydraulic calipers on a beater I'm building for a 6 mile fair weather commute on a mix of road and bridleway. Will a Clarks/Avid brand rotor or similar do the job?
Thanks -

To be fair some of the "beers round the fire" types are the very people who volunteer their time and effort to maintain bothies (I know a few maintenance organisers and have attended a few work parties myself) and bothy culture has always included the social nights, not just using them on multi day hikes.
But those which are more easily accessible are more likely to be busy with the "walk in just to stay the night and walk out again" brigade, especially at weekends and judging by the constant posts on facebook asking if they're open yet I can see some of the more popular huts being busy once the MBA give the go-ahead.
I've spent around 50 nights in around 30 different bothies and so far have only had one experience soured by tossers, this was in a bothy that was less than an hour's walk from the road. -
Someone I know who's quite involved in the MBA has been saying not until Scottish guidance allows multiple households to mix inside with no social distancing etc. Keep an eye on the MBA website for updates.
I have a feeling that when they do open there will be a busy period with all the "beers in front of the fire" brigade desperate to get back into bothies ASAP.

I'm looking for a small size (50cm-ish) bike to use as a rural beater commuter. Ideally some kind of CX/gravel bike/tourer that can handle dirt paths etc but I'm open to ideas.
Cheap and ratty is preferred as it'll be locked up outside and I don't want it to look too stealable etc, I'd consider a frame or fixer upper.
Let me know what you have. Thanks :)

I recognise that place, I just haven't been out on the bike recently due to my fancy light battery dying on me :(
I've updated the map of locations by the way.

My mum keeps accusing me of treating her house like a hotel..
..which she's really going to regret when I leave her a bad review on Tripadvisor!
