Block the bottom bracket openings and base of the head tube.
Block the bottle mounts and any other holes- bluetac should be fine.
Pour concentrated caustic soda into the frame until full.
Leave the frame in a warm and humid place for four days- the seatpost should be gone.
Only do this if you have an aluminium seatpost in a steel frame, as it is the aluminium that gets eaten.

i did a 3 day ride along the lea river/regents canal/grand union canal which went from walthamstow to wendover in bucks all along towpath. total distance was about 66 miles, not much until you consider the amount of pubs and country vistas to check along the way... easily done on a fixed or SS MTB as there's no hills to tackle but plenty of bumpy towpath so small rims/road/track frame is a no-no unless you've got a pub ride that you don't care about... You can ride all the way to birmingham in a couple of days if you go for it but we were taking it very easy staying at hotels etc... I've got a google earth .kmz file if anyone is interested in doing it...
There are plenty of canal towpaths giving traffic free cycling, some of them are in better condition than others though. I've been thinking of doing some of the grand union canal, the bits I've visited in Nottinghamshire have really nice scenery. Also check out the Sustrans website for routes in any areas you're interested in.

Probably the best thing to do is to post on here any plans you have for rides, and I'll let you know if I can come along. I'll mostly be available weekends as I work and live in Surrey during the week, wouldn't be able to make it to Oxford on a friday evening until late. I'll look in my diary and see when I'm free.
Maybe rides could be organised to local events (depending on who is interested in what). Something like the Wallingford Bunkfest in September would be a nice event to chill out at after a ride, beer tent, stalls, food, live music (although most of it will be Folky/Hippyish in nature, which isn't a problem for me)

Not an Oxford resident but I visit Oxfordshire alot as my girlfriend lives there, and I'd like to move to the area eventually. The OCW guys did a great job of building a fixed rear wheel for me. If I'm around at the right times I'd be interested in pub rides etc. How far were you thinking of riding? I know of pubs in Chalgrove, Steventon, Long Wittenham and Wallingford that might be worth visiting (i.e. they do a decent pint of ale and would have room for bikes to be locked up.
