^ nice one, well done.
Reminds me of ancient Chinese proverb: "From small runs do Marathons grow"
Thank you! It may have only been a baby run but I'm quite aware that I can do nowhere near what I can on the bike on my own two and am keen to avoid the horror that was my first 60 mile cycle by doing no more than I can feasibly finish in one go.
Also: I spent a large chunk of my professional life telling people running is stupid and fucks up your knees, thus a lot of my dithering. Still, I'd rather do longer rides than marathons, I just snuck in here for a little encouragement and info on calorie mgmt with running vs cycling.

OK, I've just realized that I have to be near the expected destination tonight at 5 p.m. anyway and didn't try running today so will test the run today! Haven't eatn a whole lot but it should be less expenditure than my cycling commute so I'll be fine.
Will report back on whether or not I give up immediately. Oh, and I may as well Strava the route.

Well, I've never run before (excepting the time I ran the mile for the first time at 12, and finished it fourth, after three track kids, at 7:54) and up until about three weeks ago, when I had so much extra energy I was required to go for a run, I would never have considered running as an option for exercise. So seeing the comparison of ultramarathons with ultramarathons, and someone deciding they're going to start running home 7 miles...wow. But OK. I'll just get started and try it out. Maybe my knees will hate it, maybe I'll hate it, maybe I'll be OK with it. I dunno at this point.

OMG I'm almost embarrassed to post in this thread, but...
I'm used to a 12 mile round trip commute by bike. I may potentially be in for a job 1.5 miles from home. If I get this job I will probably run the commute. What is the difference between cycling 12 miles daily and running 3 miles daily for weight and excess energy control purposes?
I hate going to the gym so my commute is the only regular exercise I get and I need to determine what kind of drop in calorie management I'm going to be in for. If 3 miles daily is nowhere near what I'll need to do (keeping in mind Dog Kennel Hill is on the running commute) then I may need to add in the occasional extra cycle into the week, going anywhere I please...!

I didn't know about this thread! I emailed Morrison Utility Service in September, alerting them to a particularly good experience I had with a driver and was told that they would try to identify the driver so my email could go in the quarterly newsletter! I never heard whether they did ID him so I'm going to email to find out.

Surprised myself in the rain this evening with a rather jovial 'steady on' to a mother and son who crossed in front of me in Peckham. They seemed to rather enjoy it.
Definitely going to try and more use more of these sorts of warnings, gives me a warm feeling inside.Steady on, I like that. I gave a Caaaaref'l! to a woman about to push her pram into the road in front of me this morning.

I sometimes call out "Mind out!" or "Turning left!" (as applicable) if people are about to cross without looking, but my voice seems to be very un-noticeable, despite being able to project to the back of a lecture hall, people 3 metres away on the street rarely notice. I have often come to a stop a few feet from people who remain oblivious (which is why I tend to slow/stop rather than assume I can make myself noticed).
I think I will start using "Oi oi!" though, if only for my own amusement.I have finally managed to learn to make my whistle quite loud only can't do it if I'm surprised by the need to whistle. More practicing to do, I see.

Hmmh, looks like you will need to square a circle.

thanks, dude. I could have done that myself. I'm looking for a route from Wandsworth or maybe Richmond that would then get me up to Southall.
there are plenty of people on here who will have a pretty good handle on that already and I've done Google, TfL and Cycle Streets with no real utility.

I just searched for this because I got so pissed off at a fucking moped driver today. He came riding up the narrow green bike lane southbound on Latchmere Road and then stopped in the ASL. AGH! I yelled at him to stay out of the bike lane because he wasn't a cyclist. He said, So? So what? What's the problem? Moped drivers can be so shitty.

Black shorts/T-shirt and cap for the chap on the Vigorelli?
I went down the Okker at the same time as him this morning.
Neil, there's a folk band called Okkerville River. #random

Probably not ON HERE, but Japanese bloke on a rad black geared Colnago with twin Spinergy death wheels... in Kyoto.
On the million-to-one chance you ARE on here, your bike is dope and made my miserable, hot, sweaty bus journey a lot better.
I thought, hang on a minute, isn't he in Japan? Therefore specifying Japaneseness of the spot is a bit overkill, eh? It's like, say when they're NOT Japanese; likely more useful!

My bike is fairly recognisable by having far too many accessories... sensible stuff like a saddlebag is outweighed by the less sensible - cat shaped reflector, 2 bells etc. It entertains me.
I shall look out for another blonde in ED. And I'll also try to find you on strava so I can stalk you :)
(kidding)I have just seen the girl I thought might be you in Clapham, completely confusing me and making me wonder if I saw her in Dulwich at all! (Though that's really not that far off and still totally possible I've seen her in both places.)

So it IS Bob! Good goin', noggin!
