fucking tubeless tyres and rims. Some utter bellend who thought the 2w rolling resistance saving and very occasional puncture protection was worth making all modern wheels and tyres impossible to seat and fit needs to be spoken with. GP4000s and Open pros take all of 3 seconds with no levers whereas whatever tubeless rims and tyres need the tyre to be put in the oven, the rim at the north pole then arms of steel and metal tyre levers to get the two even in the same room. then you puncture anyhow and are left with a tyre you can't remove, full of sealant and a valve you can't get out at the side of the road to put a tube in that should have fucking been there in the first fucking place. fuck that shit. I blame mountainbikers.

maybe just ask to see another wheel they've built and spin it to see if it's true? There's not really many questions you can ask, but it is quite hard to totally fuck a wheel and even if you do it badly it's nothing an hour with a spoke key can't fix. If you'd just swapping a rim, then it's a good opportunity to learn yourself too...

I got a pair of these at christmas and they're brilliant

This, however, is the best bit. A small piece of elastic that goes around your wrist so when you take them off you don't need to put them anywhere. Means when cycling and you want to check your phone you can just leave them to dangle while riding, or when locking up you don't have to balance them somewhere. For something that's so simple, it makes such a difference to the use of the gloves

yes, fantastic.
Are there any tts currently held that have a category for pre 1950s bikes? Would be interesting to know a direct comparison.
I recently read, and loved, I Like Alf https://www.mousehold-press.co.uk/book/i-like-alf-14-lessons-from-the-life-of-alf-engers/ so am very much inspired for a few hilly tts early this season

my wife bought me a Fitbit inspire 3 for Christmas and I've worn it every day since. I'm not entirely sure what improvement an apple watch would offer (unless it's a style thing). They're also much thinner, so you could get one of them, then use the difference on a 'proper' watch? Or you could buy the boyfriend the Fitbit and your daughter could spend the £300 on something more permanent?
Probably don't get involved though would be my advice! Kids don't understand longevity. For my 18th my parents and grandparents clubbed together to buy me a watch for £300. There was a plain vintage rolex in a 2nd hand shop I could have got but instead I bought a Dior Christal new but heavily discounted (for a reason). It's now worth nothing and never gets worn. But at the time the decision was easy and made me happy. If anyone had got involved and bought me the other one I wouldn’t have been their biggest fan back then

It looks dreadful, but as you say, it'll be covered, so if it's structurally ok, who cares.
To an extent I think you have to let things like this go to save your sanity. Every building has issues, so pick the ones that are worth fighting and ignore the rest imo.
