Much as I love this bike, I have finally had to accept (after nearly busting myself on a shortish ride) that the frame is just that bit too big for me.
Ideally I'd like to trade the frame for something a bit smaller, of a similar
quality. Ideally steel, would consider aluminium. If that doesn't work out, then I am open to sensible offers. In Clapham if anyone wants to see/ride.

...and it's not just the sound of traffic you need to hear - what about your bike? Or an emergency siren? Or a hot girl shouting out your name? In the city it's totally pointless to switch off one of your senses when it's crazy enough on those roads some days. Besides, I love the sound of my tires on tarmac too much.
A month or two ago a 2-stroke motorbike/scooter rider was killed by an ambulance jumping the lights at the junction of Clapham Common Northside and Rookery Road. Apparently he didn't hear the siren. Irony of ironies, the ambulance was responding to a motorcyclist who'd been hit at the junction of Wandsworth Road and Silverthorne Road. :(

ooh, I love that yellow tshirt - are they rare as fuck mulletizer?
My favourite tshirt. She sells them on her site. $35 shipped. http://www.bicyclepaintings.com/tshirts/index.html

Heh, a good mullet is something to be proud of. My last one made children in the street cry.
The price was based on the fact that there are frames/forks on the board like this that've had a coat of paint going for £50. http://www.londonfgss.com/thread7730.html. Given that the price police didn't mention that, 50 squid seemed a reasonable price for this one. ;)
There's a bit of a story behind all the bikes I put up for sale. I work for a recycling company and we often get bikes coming through. We can flog them for a flat fee but for stuff that I think someone here might appreciate more I pull them out and post them. I make nothing (not a penny) out of it myself (so don't knock the prices - I'd give it away if I could) but I get a warm glow from bringing bikes together with people that will love them. :)
When I do this I do need to make marginally more than we'd get by punting it to our normal bike buyer (about £35 in this case) in order to justify it at work (and sometimes getting some cash for a bike makes it easier for me to get away with pulling out frames to give away that otherwise would have a scrap value - see my other threads). The flip side to this is that I have to shift stuff really fast as we need warehouse space; I didn't ride in today so haven't got a pump so riding around on this bike before posting it for sale isn't an option.
Anyone who wants to come down with a pump in Vauxhall, SW4 and have a ride is welcome.

I used to be based in Antibes. Wasn't into road biking then so rode mostly CC - which was amazing round there. But on the roads, if you go geared and head inland it is, as pete says, mind blowing. I remember heading up behind San Remo once and being able to see snow on Corsica 70 miles away.
I was out driving down from a big col aways inland from there once. Nothing in my mirror for a long way. Few seconds later I was overtaken by an entire team, came around both sides of the car. Appeared out of nowhere. Turns out it was the old USPS team who were doing a training camp nearby. Nuts. Classic cycling country.

Sort of conversion - mechs have been pulled off but still running a full sent of cogs at the back (so could be converted back to a tourer easily). Single front chainring. 60cm BB centre to top of seat tube. One front brake. BB, headset, brake and look alright. Frame is dirty and there are a few rust spots but nothing structural. Chain is rusty, tyres flat (but look ok) so I haven't tried to ride it. Nice quill and chrome bars. Wheels and hubs look sound but some of the spokes are pretty rusty. Again, structurally probably ok. Whole bike would clean up well with some wire wool, oil and elbow grease. Dog ugly saddle and some dubious holes in top tube for running a cable come free. :)
It's in SW8, I'm keen to shift it ASAP. Available for tyre kicking / collection 9-6 every day. Was thinking £50 - cheap way to get rolling.

Frame, fork, BB, headset brake calipers. Just needs wheels, bars, lever. Horizontal drops. Maybe someone could make something interesting out of it.
Needs to be collected from SW8. Free but a six pack wouldn't go amiss on a day like today. :) PM me if you want it.
Probably available until noon tomorrow, after that it gets recycled.

There's some interesting stuff here; I work in IT doing web marketing/project management for a startup but don't have any specific training - and not being able to develop minor apps myself is a constant irritation. So seeing a few perspectives on this is good.
My 2p: if more money is what you're motivated by have a look at web marketing which is booming and suffering from a big skills shortage. The concepts involved are simple and you'll probably have become familiar with many of them without realising it if you've been coding web sites. It's also something you can get into quickly without the expense of university (at the rate I'm going it'll take me 10 years from graduation to pay for it all...)
Entry level jobs are pretty crappy but it as an easy sector to move up in very quickly, especially if you are in account management at one of the agencies and show reasonable aptitude. There's relatively little training out there (main source of decent training is e-consultancy - but they are expensive) but you can educate yourself online to the extent where you'll be able to pick up a first job. For jobs and to get an idea of money look at marketingjobboard.co.uk and e-consultancy.com. Feel free to PM me if you want a chat about it.

My first ride on a new road bike, had some kind of Crank Bros pedals but I was used to SPDs. I pull out of the end of my road, do a couple of hundred yards to the first set of lights on my way to spin a couple of laps of Richmond Park.
A hot blonde on a carbon roadie pulls up alongside me as I'm slowing down. As I look up she gives me a super cute smile. As I open my mouth to say something witty and charming I find the pedals don't have the same twist relaese I'm used to and I slow-mo fell sideways onto the pavement. Very red face, pathetic attempt to explain about the new pedals. She looks down at me. All she says:"Your chain's fallen off" Then she rode off to meet her friends 100m further on - they are all hosing themselves.
To make matters worse, she was riding the opposite way round the park to me so I had to deal with the shouts of abuse every time I passed her and her friends. Not smoove...

On a similar note, I come across a lot of bikes through my work (recycling) that are decent but we (as a company) can't sell without incurring cost ourselves - and I don't like seeing them crushed and melted down. The recent thing that came up and was interesting got given away here (this Vitus) and any others that might ring the bell of folk here would likely go here too. But for the other stuff - low end mountain bikes, kids bikes, that sort of thing - are there any refurb charities, free bike schemes or whatever I could give them to? I've looked around in the past but haven't come across much.
