Some evidence from practical trials suggests that motorists pass closer to cyclists wearing helmets, I think the CTC probably has the results on their site. Also, looking like a female gets you a wider berth, so go figure.
I would be amazed if the drivers I encounter would even be observant enough to notice a helmet or not (seriously). I actually think a hi viz top would have more of an effect but have no evidence!

I didn't realise the Velocity's were that much.
They are not, they are 40 quid.
The only reason I went for A319s over A23 was due to being extremely tight and wanting to use my existing spokes and hubs from a fairly new wheelset. The A319 were exactly the same ERD and the A23 wasn't. Presumably the A319 would also be stronger/take more abuse but that is not much of a concern as I never broke Open Pros when I used them. -
"Open Pro is 19.6mm, TB14 is 23mm, and A319 is 25mm."
They are the external widths. An Open Pro internal is something like 13mm whereas an A319 is around 19mm. And combined with the 1.5 weight difference still not a natural choice between Open Pro and A319 to me. A wider rim that compares better with Open Pro is the A23 isn't it?
But yes, I would think that under 28mm could be used on an A319 as your picture demonstrates.

but it is the interior width that actually matters, what is the internal size for the rim in question?
Open Pro's are pretty narrow and I ran 35c tyres quite happily. Wider rims would be better as creates the correct profile for the tyre but it shouldn't actually cause any issues running a 32c on an Open Pro size rim.

I can ride with those clearances all through the year in the New Forest. The ground is generally very stony so drains quickly. Mud is not really a problem.
I didn't bother with a front brake when I rode fixed off road though as not really much need for one as never going fast enough and more fun skidding around than on road, plus even less to maintain. -

A chain that is too tight yes, but a chain that is correctly tensioned does not have to look like it is actually too loose. THere is no benefit in a having a chain so loose it can almost fall off is there...
I tension my chain to the same visible amount at the Rossin in above post but is perfect and has no tight spots so why have it any slacker.
And before you say it, I am a little bit too old and wise to be a stupid fixie kid.

I think I underestimated the affect size can have with grip and therefore confidence. Fitted some 47c Land Cruisers a few weeks back and the bike feels like nothing can stop it!
May be because of the shocking weight of the tyres (they are definitely not for CX!) but the grip, comfort and security are worth the weight. Plus they still roll very well on road sections.

Knowing the neighbourhood around the track (used to spend alot of time in teh skatepark in the 80's) and I am still surprised no stolen cars have been driven around it yet!
I have taken a look a couple of times and it was completely empty, not even any kids messing about on it. I am guessing this was a "build it and they will come" approach rather than spending the money based on any research / business case / need for an outdoor track?
It certainly looks pretty impressive though having never appreciated the scale of the banking before.

Hanging on the driver acting on their sub conscience is not good.
Wearing a helmet may or may not change the better drivers behaviour but I really don't think this comes into play when the the bad drivers either just don't care or are not actually capable of thinking about what they are doing/driving in auto pilot (not sure which but probably a mixture)
