Just got a pair of Vibram Bikila's for running in. They do feel weird, shall start from basics though rather than go out pounding the floor. Everything I've read says start slowly, to let your body get used to near-barefoot running again.

Geeky question, but has anyone managed to get reverse tethering over USB working ? I can get everything set up, and ping any IP on the interwebs. No matter what I do, the DNS routing tries to go over the mobile data connection. This is annoying since I'm in the US and don't want to enable roaming.

I can override the DNS with:

setprop ro.kernel.android.ndns 2
setprop net.dns1 8.8.8.8

But haven't figured out how to force the lookups over usb0. I guess it's an iptables rule, however I flushed the tables, and it's still trying mobile connection. This leads me to think it's hardset somewhere in the kernel or something...

Oh, and hotels without Wifi, suck.

If you are desperate just buy a cheap second hand android phone off someone for now. You can root most, and install custom froyo (although it will probably run slowly).

I would strongly suggest waiting till Gingerbread (v3) since very few of the currently available devices will have upgrade paths. Afaik, N1, Droid and a couple of other high end are it for the upgrade to 3

If they are Kings students remember to pitch it at the low end of the spectrum; lots of diagrams and easy to follow instructions.
You might want to consider being mentored by a club from a real college.
