For me, the main point of having a freshly rolled custom cigar is to smoke it as soon as you can. I'm sure the corona I bought would have been equally good, if not better had it been aged, but the opportunity to smoke a freshly rolled cigar is fairly rare (at least for us in England). Mr. Paredes was adamant that the moistness of the cigar will have a pretty evident effect on the flavour, i.e. there's a large fluctuation in flavour between a moist cigar, and a slightly more dryed out one. For that reason, I wish I'd bought two so I could have laid one aside for a while...I just couldn't justify dropping the cash at that point in time...

I went down there yesterday just to have a look at Mr. Paredes in action, but of course after about 15 seconds of watching him I knew I couldn't leave without buying a custom rolled cigar. He was in the process of rolling Robustos when I arrived, though he said he could role any vitola I wanted. Robustos and smaller sized cigars were £18, all cigars bigger than a Robusto were priced individually. I bought a Corona, and was advised that I should smoke it the same day. I loved watching the cigars being rolled, some serious skill involved - I can't quite understand how he managed to roll about 30 Robustos all with the exact same ring-gauge, without using any sort of measuring tool...
Smoking the cigar was an experience. It was mild, though flavoursome, but also very fresh - I know that's a stupid thing to say because it was a fresh cigar, but I can't really describe it in any other way. I was a little anxious before clipping it that it would be tight drawing (as it was so moist), but my concerns were totally unjustified, it was pretty much the best drawing cigar I've ever smoked, it also burnt evenly, and slowly all the way to the knuckle.
All in all, I'm extremely glad I went down to see the rolling happen, and especially glad I bought and smoked a fresh cigar... I'd definitely recommend seizing the next opportunity to witness a true master roller in action - After meeting Mr. Paredes I was walking around with a massive grin on my face for a good few hours! -

Ahhhh, back to the cigar thread. The most gentile and pleasant of all the forum threads. My recent absence is due to moving house, and having no form of internet access at work or home...
I should be officially back in the game soon, though not for a couple more weeks yet. Glad to hear that smoking continues amongst you fine folk. I really really want to organise/have someone else organise some sort of a get-together soon. We are most definitely approaching the dark days of the winter months, where enthusiastic smokers are forced to head outdoors and huddle together in a last ditch attempt to satisfy the cuban cravings.
Someone get off your arse and put a plan in motion. I emplore thee! -
I feel like I have been neglecting Cigars recently, though not by choice. I've been really busy with holidays, and their enevitable aftermath at work, as well as with moving house, and with work getting really full-on generally. I'm pretty booked up as far as weekends go until the second week in September, but I still have free-time during the week.
I would love to organise some sort of weekend meet that incorporated a 5 mile cycle followed by 2 cigars and multiple pints, and I think if we get enough of us to agree on a date we could all ensure that we planned other activities around the meet. But in the interim, I would be very much up for a mid-week 2 hour pub session somewhere more central.... Wednesday's are generally good for me, though what are peoples thoughts - I'm happy to be flexible.

OK, it seems mid-week might be better then. I'm not really around this weekend now (I have some free time but not much), and next weekend (the 21st/22nd) I'm moving house.
Hows about Wednesday, 18th somewhere centralish. Having down my way would be best though, as THE SUN AND DOVES (I'm going to keep pushing it people) has covered smoking areas etc. in case the weather turns nasty. If we can agree on a date, then we can sort a venue...

I know it's already been said by others, and judging by the list it doesn't really need confirming...but, my saddle bag is great! I took it on a short tour of Holland/Germany a couple of weeks ago (we did 400 miles in 5 days, so not massive cycling but good enough). I stupidly took far too much stuff, and over the course of the holiday stuff gradually migrated from my messenger bag into my saddle bag. I only have a pic of the first day, but I had slightly more stuff in it on the way back...

There were 2 others on the trip with saddle bags. Both of which were more expensive, neither of which were as streamlined or as stable as mine. So, well done Scott! -

Alright guys. Yeah, I've been really busy for the last couple of weeks. I'm leaving on a short (12 day) cycle tour through the Netherlands and Germany tomorrow at about 6am. I've been horribly busy preparing my unsuitable steed, luggage arrangements, and tying loose ends up at work.
Dale, as you know I have responded to your PM, and yes I would love to go for a smoke. John (harrong) is also interested in another link up. Once again, I suggest that we link at the Sun and Doves, shortly after I get back from the tour.
Kris. Too late I'm afraid buddy. I'm back on the 28th (though I'll mostly be sleeping on that day), anytime after that we can arrange a delivery/collection - if ur about that weekend it could work well - let me know what you want to do asap!
Hope everyone's well, catch you all when I get back!

Hi all,
I'm leaving on a short tour (about 700 miles), next Friday morning (16th July). My bike is almost ready except for the above. Clearly I have left this until the last minute, and I'm now praying that someone can sort me out!
The bike is from the 70's, so something in keeping would be great. I need some fairly wide road drops with a short stem (preferably something with a high min insertion mark - though I will consider anything). I would prefer something in good nick, though I'm getting desperate so again, I'll consider anything.
Would prefer that the stem clamp matches the bars as well.
Cheers all, you could really be saving my bacon!!
Jamie.

Good to know mate. I will make sure it's checked. Unfortunately I wont be able to check it myself, as it will be being delivered to my rent's place. Do you have an 18 bottle capacity, or 24?
