Hello
Wanted to share my latest bike. Its been a while since I've built anything saucy since my last fixed beast got stolen by some unsavoury mutherfucker in Amsterdam about 4 years ago. Took a while to simply get over it to be honest. In the interim I've built a nice Bustraan RIH though (proper gears and stuff, road bike) and have been knocking about on a Swedish military bike which I picked up when I moved to Stockholm.
Anyway.. time felt right to create something a bit more venemous. So I began scouring the boards for a suitable frame and up came this Romet Super:

I am told that it was the frame designed & built for the Polish Olympic team. Not sure I'm totally believing that but I'm willing to buy it :) The fact is, the geometry looked like pretty much what I was after and it is made from Columbus SL. Win.
Since the frameset is Polish I decided to try n keep the parts list as Euro as possible. I've got a weird dislike of Campy.. can't really explain it but anyways they were firmly black-listed. Enter Miche & Cinelli.
So I made a shopping list:
- Romet Super Frameset
- H+Son Formation Face Rims
- Decent but not outrageous hubs
- Miche Primato Advanced Crankset
- Miche Primato BB
- Izumi Standard Chain (not euro, but too legit to leave out)
- Miche Supertype seatpost
- Cinelli XA Stem (~100mm)
- Cinelli Criterium 40cm Bars
- Selle Ti Flite 1990s Saddle
- BLB City Pedals
- Restrap Diagonal foot-straps
All that's left to order is the chain. Everything else is either here now or en route. Excitement much :)
BB is in, Crankset is in, wheels are sort of on (not pumped and I'll probably change the tyres), post is in (needs a clamp), stem is in (sort of- need to work on teh lock-ring on the headset, its being a dick), pedals are on... story so far:

(building a bike in the office FTW)
As the rest starts to arrive I'll update the thread. I'm super happy though, a lot of the parts I've put on this bike are things I've wanted for a while but never really could commit to spending on.

Was thinking of this: http://www.everymantri.com/everyman_triathlon/2013/10/guiness-world-record-triathlon-race-report-30-ironman-races-in-a-row.html
But while looking for the link, discovered this psychopath: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/50-ironman-triathlons-50-days-50-states-join-me#/story

Hello
I'm building a new bike. My last fixed gear weaponry got stolen by some vagabond in the Amsterdams about 3 years ago and it's taken me this long to get over it. Been pounding around on my Swedish military bike since- I love it, but I'm finally ready to build something a bit saucy again.
My remit for the framset is pretty broad but I definitely favour steel over alu,.. probably couldn't afford the carbons (unless its just the fork) and I'm unhealthily obsessed with super sharp clearances.
So if you have something kicking about in that size which you'd like to export to Stockholm then I might just be your man.
Thanks

Took a bit of a shine to Factory Five's Pista today. Came pretty close to ordering one until I ran it through this rather handy tool: http://www.dutycalculator.com/
The landed price adds close to 200 quid onto the cost because of customs etc. (more than half the price of the frame itself!)
I'm assuming its just one of those 'suck it up asshole' type situations but I wanted to put the question out there to see if anyone had figured a clever way of getting Chinese imports into Europe without handing out all this extra coin.
Incidentally, I'm in Sweden. Its Europe tho so I'm guessing same rules apply etc.
Thanks!

Londoners would be quite happy of we could cut ourselves off @dan
Ha ha! Couldn't agree more. I live in Sweden where the [Nazi] Party just won 13% of the vote. Not a single person here in Stockholm, however, gave em so much as a nod. Me n the missis have often noted that Capital Cities should really be treated as separate countries. One government categorically does not fit all. It's an outdated model

The fact is that the Union has had a long time to improve the lives of people throughout the UK and have only succeeded in skimming off the top and giving it to the ermine robed cronies in Whitehall (@uber_gruber)
^^^ Totally agree. Its the gradual appearance of this in my thoughts that've pushed me towards a solid Yes (well, if I wasn't living abroad, thats certainly what I'd be voting).
The other thing which struck me the other day was how much I wholeheartedly support the Basque and their stance on being Basque,.. not French, not Spanish,.. Basque. The same rules should apply to my home country.
In a utopian world, there would be no county lines whatsoever. Sadly though, people are dicks. And the more power they're handed the worse they seem to behave.
I truly hope Scotland gets Independence. I think Salmond is a clown who almost certainly is not the guy who's going to be able to navigate the country to the 'healthy place' but maybe the person who succeeds him or the one after that is, and for that reason its a thing worth doing.
@Scilly.Suffolk - Woo.. Connex looks intriguing. Mostly because I've never heard of it though. I've run Izumis before and I like that they're super quiet but also haven't let me down. How's the Connex, noise-wise?
LOL @ Bin for the seatpost- granted its probably form (which many hate too) over function but its something I saw yeeeaaars ago and sorta fell in love with. Plus I quite like how it 'cones' out at the top which matches the stem. Still- maybe personal experience with it, pending, will learn me the error of my ways :0
