Does Brixton Cycles carry Condor?
I have never been to Brixton Cycles (live on the other end of town) but Condor Cycles obviously has *lots*of Condors. Not that far from Stockwell either. Check it out: http://tinyurl.com/56l97q (Google Maps link)
And about weapons, don't be scared. I, too, think it is overrated. Just keep away from drunk teenagers hanging out at the bus stop late at night.

Hi,
I'm helping to convert a road bike into SS. Well, it's already a SS but he has problems with the chain tension (no surprise there). I think the best thing would be to get a frame with horizontal dropouts.
At the moment he has got a Claud Butler frame with a really fat down tube. The frame is in decent condition with no rust. It's only the stickers that have peeled off ever so slightly. Do dents.
How much would you think a frame like this would fetch on ebay/gumtree? I'm asking because I would buy a new frame first, then move the components over and then sell the Claud Butler.

OTP - lots of bike for not much money.
Building a bike isn't so expensive and there's lots of people who are willing to help. Lots of tools to borrow, too.Come to polo. It seems a little daunting to start with (I was bricking it the first time) but people are friendly and want to help. We're all bike nerds.
Bear in mind that s/he lives in Shropshire and can't just pop out to the Open Toolbox, socials or polo.

Keep a **very **close eye on the classified section. The aforementioned bargains go very, very quickly.
For example look at what vinylvillain sold for £230: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread7054.html

Well, if you don't mind coming to London for your bike this forum every now and again has amazing bargains, ie bikes completely built. Many people on here seem to enjoy building bikes and will only ask for what the components have cost them and not for their skill and knowledge.
I regret having bought a bike before I started hanging out on this forum. I easily paid double to what I would have on this forum.

Great! Having completed a BA, I am starting a conversion MSc in CompSci at UCL this September and I was burning to ask someone in the IT industry exactly these questions. And cheers Joachim for the encouragement.
I have never worked for a computer company but I have taught myself object-oriented and web programming (Python/Django, Javascript, PHP). I can also do a little Java but I am not great. On the course we will do lots of Java and I'm hoping to learn or teach myself to do object-relational mapping, i.e. Spring & Hibernate.
I am sometimes wondering if I will make a big mistake by spending even more money on university. What do you guys think? How hard is it to get a job after these sorts of courses? Does it matter that I don't have much experience?
I'm totally into computers and programming and would love to work in this industry.

what a pain in the arse all these variations are.
Infuckingdeed. Why do manufacturers come up with so many different standards? Well, I kinda know the answer. It's what Microsoft has been doing with software for a long time because people don't care about these things. Admittedly, why should they? They want a bike that rides not a specific crank.

Hi,
Brucy was nice enough to put a new freewheel on my bike. However that changed the chainline ever so slightly. I would still say that it is good but I can't cycle a mile without the chain coming off or locking out.
Would anybody with a freewheel tool who goes to East End Beers be kind enough to help me put in a freewheel spacer or two?
Speaking of freewheel spacers, would I get them in any old LBS or just the specialised ones?
Cheers

Hi,
Anybody going to the British Motor Show (http://www.britishmotorshow.co.uk/)at the ExCel from July 23 to August 3? Could do a londonfgss outing...

-
Having overhauled the bearings, I believe the clicking comes from the freewheel. I would like to take off the old one and get a new one but I am not sure which freewheel tool will fit. My freewheel looks like this:
/attachments/1153Sorry for the crap quality - is from my phone.
I counted the notches: there are 8.
The text on the freewheel reads: "Made by Cold Forged Technology Power Removal System by DNP"
Is the standard Park Tool one gonna fit?

In order to get a better chainline I would like to adjust my rear wheel. However I only have some really fat spacers/nuts on the axle and would like to fine tune the position.
Anybody got spares lying around? I tried lots of mailorders but none had what I wanted. Is it acceptable to use ordinary B&Q washers/nuts?

Just to clarify, bedtime, Brick Lane Bikes is a bike shop on the corner of Brick Lane and Bethnal Green Road. They specialize in FG and SS stuff.
Bikes from Brick Lane market are something different and unconnected to said shop. They are all stolen. Don't feed the bike thieves by buying from there.
Not that complicated but potentially confusing.
About the angelfire thingie. I bought a bike from there, stupidly I hasten to add. They are not at all refurbished as advertised. They buy used bikes, give them a shitty paint job with radiator spray paint (chips off everywhere), stick on a new saddle and freewheel, saw off the drops and wrap around new bartape. The only thing new were the tyres. Voila. That would be 300 of your English pounds, sir.
You can get something nice on this forum for £300. Keep your eyes peel in the Classifieds, the bargains go very quickly. Right now someone is selling a Langster for £240 (http://www.londonfgss.com/thread8558.html). Or go OTP as others have suggested.
