I ride in the city and out of town BUT if I was touring for days/a week or more I would personally prefer to do it on gears, just seems odd to wanna have massive open roads and you get to the spinning point and know that you can't go any quicker, "Shit, wish I'd used gears now!", I've even done it myself...

You may as well put in a claim, what have you got to lose? The non drive side is clearly fucked which the original seller didn't point out (I'm assuming) so you do have a leg to stand on.

I say dispute it, get as much info together as you can and shove it off to paypal, keep a record of all your correspondence with the guy. If you present your case well you shouldn't have a problem and he won't have a choice, I think you have 30 days from the sale of the item to start a dispute.

i'm coming from sydney australia, my airline quoted me $360USD excess baggage fees for one way ($720 return), postage is about the same. i figure if i get a bike over there i can sell it after i'm done and get (some) money back.

Could you not post it, or is that too expensive, also wouldn't it go on as sports equipment, I know easyjet charge £15 to take your bike on, surely it would be cheaper than buying a whole new bike.
