@Soul - I've got £60 GN for you - I'd offer more but you've taken it out of the packaging, which we all know is irreplaceable.
It's yours for £70. That's a 30% discount for exactly the same thing you can buy from condor!

Chrome Metropolis. Grey with black stripe.
Bought it from Chainreactioncycles about two months ago for £100. Tried (after putting up for sale on here initially) to return it to Chainreaction and after much arguments they refused to accept it as i had opened the plastic wrapping it came in!!!
Anyway. Brand new and unused - £80

also you can boot from an external firewire drive, but i don't think you can boot from a USB 2.0 drive?
this glass touchpad thing intrigues me. does it have a display underneath it?
No display unfortunately, it's glass because it has capacitive rather than resistive touch technology.
USB 2.0 is supposed to run faster than Firewire 800 but most devices run faster with Firewire because i has more connections (8 pin rather than usb 4 pin). This means it can shove more data down at the same time.

I don't think anyone here is naive enough to think that spoke cards / flyers are the solution to a very big problem. However, i think they would be a starting point and a great way to build 'buzz' (sorry, media person :( ).
They would also be a great way for people, who don't have much time to dedicate, to get involved with a worthy cause.
They can't do any harm!
-
Actually, I have a feeling that suicide/right side may not be best. What is stopping a truck turning right and catching cyclists that followed the directions of this card? Less common but possible?
This is true but the point is that these accidents occur because the cyclist has nowhere to go (because of pavement or railings) rather than the lorry turning unexpectedly.
I think this is a very simple rule which will help.

http://www.solopress.com/flyers/cheap-flyers.html
This seems to be quite a good site in terms of price as well as the fact that they use vegetable oil instead of mineral oil based inks.
A6 size is only £410 (including VAT and Delivery) for 5000. From what i can tell, this is double sided as well.

Indeed.
Don't lose focus of the original email or what happened this morning.
The spirit shown in the first few pages of this thread is inspirational, and whilst we have momentum and the incident is fresh we should push it as far as possible.
Spoke cards are a great idea. A grass roots campaign to raise awareness amongst the wider populace of cyclists of the dangers of trucks.
Stick to that... don't lose focus, squabble or become distracted by too many differing goals. We can totally achieve that one goal with great success and create enough publicity from it to help raise awareness.
I'm happy to throw some money towards creating the spoke cards. And I'm sure others would donate too. Let's act now, whilst we have momentum.
Then, let's spread 5,000 of them amongst 500 core members of the forum. We have those numbers, it can work easily. Each person only has to place 10 spoke cards. Again, a small and achievable target for each person, though the target of 500 people doing it is high (but we have 2,000 active members, so only 1/4 of the active user base).
Don't put swear words on the cards.
And make it clear that they're for cyclists... if they fall off on the road they should still state their purpose out of context.Just my 2p.
Very happy to donate!
I also thing Mumblers [sic] link for the TFL financial backing site is genius.
As stated in a previous post, if we manage to get that kind of number of cards into circulation then i am certain i can get someone at Metro to cover it.
-
This is great and it makes sense to all of us but what about those new to cycling who are arguably at the most risk? It needs specific context i.e. if you had 'When overtaking lorries...' printed above the lorry then the story would be more complete, at least IMHO.
You're right, needs to be more obvious.
Any ideas which will get press, news coverage? A publicity stunt which will get London thinking?
I think if 1000 spoke cards are distributed along with posters / stickers, i could get something into Metro. That would certainly be a start!!

The Mrs. got me a deck chair: http://www.bloomsburystore.com/home_interior/penguin_classics/deckchairs/penguin-deckchair3-Penguin_Book_Deckchair_Man_and_Superman.htm?browse=1
