Oxford to Cambridge 2008 .We endured.... the freezing fog facial hair effect , hostile comments from a fair few roadies about how "stupid" we were riding fixed and hangovers from the excellent "Grit" gig at the man in the moon the nite before.

This event is more fun than the london cambridge charity ride, but still is full of crap mountain bikes and lycra .I'm 99% doing it with one other so far,Will, depending on weather and Jamie driving us in my van down .There's is space in said van... but possibly in the back with no windows.... Securicor style( you can petend you're Ronnie Biggs!) I'm not selling this am i ? Can offer space to crash for Oxford types too

Go downstairs into the bike park in the basement of Park Street Park ,next to Maypole Pub. There you will find a little dutch looking ex messenger called Rick, he runs a bike workshop down there . He rides fixed and can build wheels or can fix or supply anything you need .

Do it ! Do it ! You've got a welding torch too? You will have to bend the track ends to make them sit parallel . Most of the work is in the prep , be careful when you cook the old road out . I usually cut them in half first so the chain stay and the seat post ends can be cooked out separately .

I only have had the steel original ones , the bit that fucked up is, the thread holding the bearing. I have had 1000's of miles on them and they still work but start clicking and it gets annoying.

I like Eggbeaters . You do need to keep your foot totally straight in them when skidding and hopping about, they make it harder to trackstand ,they break (i've been through 3 sets in 2 years) but they look nice , not like a stealth bomber on acid (ATAC)

It was an eighties road frame from a skip at one of these recycling centres . I've got quite a few frames i'm hacking about and putting in track ends at the moment . I have no luck with paint,it always seems to fuck up or fall off . I'm gonna stick to filing and brazing steel frames and get someone else to do the paint if i want it to look nice . Should come to meet us at the Maypole on Thursdays 6.30pm , there was only a few of us tonight we still went for a ride but seems a far cry from the hoards (10ish) that went out earlier this month.

Cheers ...It's gonna rust isn't it , the lacquer was plasticote, which has gone all white and blooming probably coz i sprayed it on too thick or too cold or its reacted with traces of oil or nitromores on the frame .It looks nice still, i like the way you can see all the braze around the bottle and brake hole that have been filled like a fried egg in reverse. Feb has such total faith in my brazing ability that she's prepared to ride around on it.... must be mental . You out tonight?
