Is it really so dangerous to ride fixed/front brake without clips/straps? I did it for about three months when I first went fixed. Never had a single problem. Ok, my feet came off the pedals twice in the first two weeks (once under Hyde Park Corner underpass, memorably) but it was easy enough to slow down with the brake and get my feet back on.

Like someone above says, learning to ride fixed and learned to ride strapped in would have been too much of a headfuck for me.

One or two forumengers at the time politely enquired how I was stopping (happily they didn't bite my head off), but it's pretty straightforward to resist the pedals / back pedal, as opposed to pulling up on the straps (although the latter is more effective). Arguably it's a bit more natural too.

Notwithstanding all that, I now ride strapped in and much prefer it. I do wonder whenever someone on here expresses outrage about people riding without any foot retention whether it's because they learned to stop by pulling up not backpedalling...

Its not either or, you should be resisting with one leg and pulling up with the other at the same time.

No its just so you can adjust the tension on the cable

Its illegal to sell a bike for road use which doesn't conform to british standards.

One of these standards is that it has 2 independent braking sytems.
So technically, a bike with flat pedals and a front brake (seen on many newbie hipster setups) isn't legal. because it only has one brake.

As a shop you can bypass this by whacking on a sticker stating that the bike is specifically for 'off road' or competition use only.

other lovely things that a new road bike is meant to have are - reflectors front and rear - aswell as reflectors on the wheels and a Bell.

So they let out a load of convicts + give them getaway vehicles. Genius.

You guys are so missing out. Our current project is to write a proposal to the arts council (which will never be seen by the arts council) .

Basically, it will be marked by our tutors, the idea being they'll assess our proposals then give us feedback. The amusing thing is that the arts council funding proposal form is so regimented that basically they're simply can marking us on how well we can fill in a form. It's the most ridiculous project ever.

So, I am proposing that the arts council fund me on a mission to the Vatican, to convince the Pope to apologise to every aspect of humanity that the catholic church has offended since it was created.

Its already been done, there are plenty of MTB's with Rohloff hubs running on belt drive.

I found riding road pedals a bit dodgy around town, carbon soled road shoes act like soap on the wrong side of the pedals - i once fell off trying to clip in, in front fo a bus. not cool. stick to double sided pedals about town IMO

SHimano Saints are soooo overkill for a fixed gear bike. Why not just get Hone? Still be toos trong to break on fixed gear and lighter still.

I've been from Leeds to East Midlands airport on a national express coach, with a downhill bike in a box. I just had to call and book it. They were fine about it - although they did state beforehand that I had to remove my pedals... haha

Firstly they remove your saddle leaving seatpost in.

Then a bottom bracket cup is removed with the bottom bracket.

A bung is placed over the drive side.

stevie nicks is brought in and procedes to sit on your bike.

Whilst stevie positions herself at the very least 10grams of white powder is placed in the bottom bracket tube.

Lastly a minion will procede to blow on the non-drive side of the bottom bracket like a didgiredoo*

Some coke is lost in the process but stevie recieves a partial hit.

I believe you get the fleetwood mac back catalogue in leather panniers

Although I can see why people like the look of the actual bike - I think its pretty cool too, some (not all) people look really daft on them. All hunched up over the front of a diddy wheel.
