@coppiThat not sure if you're trying to jedi mind trick me into switching to a Rolex hah. You make a good point though.
Same goes for @BRM and @freddo
Thanks for the advice as always!

I think you're right and I'd like to get to the stage where once I do get one, I get over the fact of its value and enjoy it as it should be enjoyed. Like you, if I get one it will be with me for life.
I just have to get past the mental (and real life) jump of a $400 watch to a $4000 watch. I just looked at the cost of a new one here in Toronto and after taxes they're $7700! -
I should have mentioned the other problem in that I'm sentimental. I wouldn't get rid of the Chris Ward as it was my first proper watch, bought for me by my dad. The G10 was a service watch used by my father in law so that would have to stay.
My other worry is that although the speedy is my grail watch and, in some way, the ultimate tool watch, the value of it would really limit my wearing of it as much I'd like. Not sure if the speedy wearers of this parish suffer this problem?

@Stonehedge exactly the kind of considered response I was hoping for. hah!
@freddo Out of the 7 I have currently, I mainly wear a SKX009, Christopher Ward C4 (quartz) and my CWC G10. I have a G-Shock that I tend to wear only if i'm worried about damaging another watch and then the other 3 watches get little wear but I'm loathed to part with any of them bar one (a vintage Lancia incabloc auto that is too small).
Since I've ever shown any interest in watches, it's always been a Speedy that has been my grail but as time goes on I'm not sure whether I could justify the spend on one or whether I would wear it as I'd like for fear of damaging it.
The other side of it is that when I look at affordable alternatives that I love the look of (Steinhart Ocean 1 Military/Hamilton Khaki/Squale to name a few) I often wonder whether It's a waste of time when it isn't what I really want.
Plus, as I like tool watches, do I want/need to end up with a bunch of watches that are essentially all the same?

I'm probably coming to the wrong place for 'subjective advice' but here goes nothing... (also this is a ramble so apologies in advance)
I recently got a promotion at work. Its something I've worked hard for and it's the first promotion I've ever had. As a result, part of me thinks I should mark the occasion and reward myself with something that I can keep long term. As a lot of people do, I'm thinking a watch would be good. However, I recently realised I've got too many watches (7 at present) and said I wouldn't buy/didn't need another.
Has anyone else been through the rational ('don't need') vs emotional ('reward/celebrate') debate? If I don't get something will I regret it?

Most touring cars/saloon cars take the whole 'production car' basis and throw it out of the window. I'm not suggesting for a moment that the DTM car shared much if anything with the 155 Joe Blogs could buy but as they are "based" on the road car I'd notch that up as success for the model. Therefore I'd say that the 155 was a successful race car in the same way that the Sierra (RS500/XR4/Sapphire), 3 Series (M3, 320IS) etc were.

I'd think that good examples of all 996's will go up. They'll just increase in different increments. About 8 years ago we had a lovely, low mileage 996 GT2 at my dads place that we were selling for a longstanding customer.. After sitting at 40k in the showroom for 4-5 months, the owner decided to take it back and chop it in for something else. Looking at Pistonheads now, the cheapest (by a long shot) GT2 is now 86k with all the others priced at 120k +...

Hi Aggi, I live in Toronto but I've not seen anything like whats available in the UK for this (when I'm back in the UK I use a GiffGaff PAYG sim and it works great). Looking around it seems like the best thing to do is try and pay for a data roaming add on with your provider in the UK if they offer it.
If you need any recommendations for the city, let me know!

Iphone 5S is about to kick the bucket so I think after reding up on recommendations here I've narrowed down my choices to Nokia 6.1 or a Motorola G6. Both have + & - points but seem to be pretty comparable. However, I've not found either in stores here (in Canada) to actually see them in the metal so I'm going to have to take a punt.
G6 is $330 plus tax via Amazon.
Nokia is $320 plus tax (also via Amazon - ad says Nokia 6 (2018) but apprently buyers have confirmed it's a 6.1)Anyone who has looked at both got any pointers of which to go for before I'm forced to randomly choose.
Most of the big brands are premium enough for me hah.
The Pelagos is lovely but if I was spending that much I'd just go straight for a Speedy.
Thanks for the whisky recommendation too (and you @Sumo ). I'll give them a try and see if they change my mind.
