oops. my usual trawl through local sales listings peaked my interest with a new bike. Went to have a look and it was too good to pass up. Bizarrely, the guy who I bought it off had exactly the same name as my dad. very weird.

2004 Redline Flite Monocog. He had bought it for his daughter who doesn't seem to have used it. Looks to have been upgraded by the guy he bought it off. Sun rims to 90's Profile bmx hubs, Flite Gel Saddle, Syncros post, Ringle headset, XTR v-brake on the front and an Avid on the back. Weird Avid Black Ops stem too which I've never seen before.

Heading to look at a early 00's Redline Monocog. It doesn't say in the ad but it looks like it's an alloy Flite one. Pictures show what look like a clean bike but just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into.

Aside from obvious crash damage etc, is there anything to look out for on late 90's/early 00's aluminium frames?

Just finished my new RGR build.

Finally got the spinergys on the Aquila. Also fitted a nitto stem, some easton risers (thought it was cool that they matched the frame tubing). I'm pretty happy with the way it looks and rides.

Wow, impressive collection. Always loved the look of Shivers. The Lahar is something I've not heard of before so I need to look in to it further.

Handy to know. I love the look of my SKX009 but the fact that it keeps fairly crap time and can't be hand wound irks me a little. I might give one with a 4R36 movement a try.

@howard I thought the difference between these and the ones lower down the chain was that these had the hackable/hand wind 4R36 movement? seems like its a step up from the 7S26 in the SKX series.

Every iteration of this bike has been great. So fun to watch the journey.

You've actually got me thinking that swapping my fixed wheel to freewheel would be more fun too.

I'd never seen one in the flesh until I moved to Canada but they seem to be a pretty common sight at cruises and car shows. Odd looking thing. From some angles I think they look quite striking but I see them from others and they look fugly. Certainly nothing I have any interest in owning.

@danstuff they were the fastest production car when they came out, apparently reaching 178mph at bonneville!

Both the Kona and Dawes are looking great. Really fancy a single speed mountain bike now!

This looks great. I'd ditch the suspension forks and get something like a Kona Project 2 fork. Alternatively I saw a nice Brodie suspension corrected segmented fork a few weeks ago but they will probably be a bit more spendy.

Always loved this build so I'm glad you've resurrected it. I just read through from the start and your thinking behind this is exactly how I'm think when building my daft Aquila Tri bike at the minute.

Thought it looked familiar. I got my first proper mountain bike, a Diamond Back Ascent (if I remember correctly) in around 1996 from Rickerby's in Hexham.

A friend used to have a facelifted mk1 berlingo which he used as a very basic "adventure mobile". He used to sting up a hammock corner to corner inside and sleep on that and rave about how comfortable it was.

Also forgot to add my Soma in here. From what I can figure out its an early Rush with cage mounts. Fitted with Omniums, Phil hubs to Deep V / DTSwiss R490 rims, Thomson post and stem with Simworks Getarounds. its great fun and I've been using it a decent amount of late. Next jobs with this are to change the awful purple pedals, take the bike apart and try to respray it as the paint is pretty worn. I also would like to rebuild the wheel set with new rims at some point

25.4 Thomson stem and Simworks Getaround bars. Also fitted an all-weather Cambium.

Progress report on the fleet. Have a baby on the way so had to clear some bikes out to create some space. The Rocky Mountain and the BRC have gone leaving me with the Aquila as my town bike.

Finally got a set of clinchers for it after an unsuccessful search for some clincher Spinergys. Ended up finding a set of Bontrager Selects. Ran those for a week. Then a late night message from a friend who had seen an advert just go up on Kijiji netted me a pair of Spinergy Rev X clinchers like I'd been looking for.

Currently have a Spinergy on the front and Bontrager on the back until I can get to my friends shop to swap stuff over on the back. Then to decide whether I can trust vintage carbon.

Nice. I've got a (way less silly but still reasonably silly) 650c Tri bike that I'm making my everyday/town bike. I've been looking for Spinergys here but the few pairs I've found here are way too expensive and mainly tubs.
