Didn't realise it had been so long since I'd updated this. Not much has changed but I still love it. It doesn't get the use it was getting as my office moved and is no longer commutable by bike.
I removed the front rack soon after the last pictures were taken but I'm due to fit a new rack soon. I also got sick of dropping the chain despite having the chain guide on there so I ditched that for a narrow-wide which gives the added benefit of improving the tall gearing. The only other change was the saddle which went to a WTB Speed but I'm thinking about upgrading that to a Cambium. -
I would be keeping it with 26" wheels but i'd be going from a frame built with a 60mm Quadra 21 to the Sektors which offer 120-150mm travel.
What @Howard mentions is what worries me the most so I've gone back to the drawing board. The Rock Mountain will stay as is. Thanks for the advice all.

I thought as much but my theory was completely un scientific or taking actual angles into account. My theory was that by adding a taller fork, it would raise the front end but make the wheel base slightly longer and slacken the angles like modern hardtails. I have no clue whether this is true though.

I've got my dad looking for one. He'd be the one getting it for me and keeping it until I figured out what I was going to do with it so I've got more chance of getting one if it's a bit closer to the north-east. Shame it's not later in the year, I could have got him to have a look at the Black one on eBay whilst he was at Goodwood for Revival.

Great cars. Sold loads of 172s and 182s when I was in the trade and would thoroughly recommend one. My dad also got my mum a 182 Trophy when they first came out so I use that a fair bit and and I can say that it is one of the best hot hatches I've ever driven. Felt really special, was quick and capable but could be used daily by my mum. Clean 172/182s are getting a bit harder to find. Trophys are starting to go up in value. Coincidentally, my dad just sold a really tidy 182 Trophy that was sub 100k miles for £6,995.
Try and look at a few and you'll start to see the difference between good ones and bad ones. Time hasn't been too kind to the build quality of them and the interiors were a bit plastic-y from new but it was part of their charm. I'd probably go for a 'full fat' 182 for daily use but having seen how Clio 197s and 200's have come down in price, I'd also be tempted to try one of those too to see the difference.

I moved here about 5 years ago and quickly made friends with a bunch of guys that work in shop so our group is pretty good. We're all into similar kinds of riding and having fun, a lot of which of which comes from building stuff and talking about what else we want to build. Not so much riding getting done at the minute. Did I read you have connections to Vancouver?

Started looking at this thread yesterday. Love the quiver of bikes you have and your adoption of old mtb's. Myself and a few friends here in Toronto have been messing round with old mtb's and using them as doing everything bikes for the last couple of years and we've got to the point where we enjoy messing with them more than our "proper" builds. Keep up the good work.
