An avant garde suggestion I realise, but I once got a seatpost out of a frame into which it had disappeared with the use of a quill stem. If you can get the stem into the seatpost (as you would into the forks normally) then do it up and pull it out. Robert's your mother's brother.
Depends on the inside diameter obviously but worth a try if you have a stem, failing that then suggestions of others - mole grips - otherwise known as locking pliers or a vice should do it, or a drilled hole and bolt through that hole then a bit of rope under the bolt, foot on top tube and other foot on top of back wheel, pull and out she comes (with a bit of luck).

Yeah, I know you're right but say at least £110 for a new 853 seat tube, plus £115 for another respray, plus courier to and from Bristol, we're getting up to £250 and whilst it is bloody lovely that's a lot of money to repair a frame that is ultimately a bit small, esp when you see what you can get for not much more on the 'bay. So, I'm just riding it with a really long, stiff seatpost until it goes completely then some budding frame maker can have it to practice on.

And the Vento's intended is more than 5mm too thin. Jeff's older than he looks, not only a tight 122.5 at the back but he also takes non recessed brakes too (what do you reckon, puppy kill? - a 120 track goes in perfect - but then there is no chance my girl will use it).
Anyway, ergo Vento's up for the swap. (I have to say that lo-pro Bob would make a good home IMHO)

Now I could be wrong, but I think the issue with changing Campag from 8spd to 9spd (and possibly even 10) is that the cassettes got narrower (as the sprockets got thinner and indexing got tighter) as opposed to wider as one might assume. Thus, I think the remedy is spacers. I'm not certain though, anyone?

the forks from my 90's Orbit 853 lo-pro. Just resprayed glitter red by Argos of Bristol, unridden/mounted since. Take a 700c wheel (shown with a 19mm tub so you get an idea of the clearance) - 164mm steerer, 37mm threaded




Campag Vento rear wheel. Complete, ready to ride, 8spd cassette, original QR, tyre, tube, (not in the pic apparently, sorry I am an idiot) very good condition, very little brake wear, 20 aero spokes.



Those 28h Campy/Miche Tub track wheels you've already seen.


And this XS Gore-Tex PacLite Jacket (you'll need a smaller than 30inch waist though!)

Or a tub on the front is all right, loads of people ride tubs (tt riders, tour riders...), it is just on a fixed rear wheel I think it isn't ideal because they ain't the cheapest and on fixed people tend to wear through rear tyres really quickly. Oh, or on an all weather commuter but 24" front wheels are not usually popular choices on that kind of hack anyway. :p

Yeah, maybe you're right, but I figured unless the post was seized you wouldn't be putting a lot of weight on it, just a steadying foot, top tubes ain't that fragile.
