This uni term I've only got 2 days in each week (pfft, students), so I'm going to give it a go commuting by bike rather than the usual smelly train.
Not entirely sure of a good route though, current plan (from home in Bromley) is to get to Redhill via New Addington valley, Woldingham, Godstone then just stay on the A25 all the way in.
Anyone else done SE London -> Guildford? I think there's a London to Brighton route via Guildford, but can't find one that passes anywhere near Bromley.

My dear old mum's mountain bike has come to the end of its useful life and she's looking to get a proper bike, with skinny tyres and everything.
She's only 5' 3" though - not many small frame road bikes come up on ebay/gumtree.
Looking for something in good nick, around 48cm equiv frame with drops and STI/ergo shifters.
Long shot on this forum, I know, but there must be a short arse out there with a geared bike going spare.

Not quite, as an agnostic position would involve some degree of neutrality, which is not the same as probability, i.e. the self-professed atheists are clearly leaning one way and the agnostics are too worried about falling off the fence that they keep perfectly balanced. It may of course just be some quantitative scientists hedging their bets until they feel they can safely make an inductive inference in the direction in which they may be predisposed to gather evidence.
But I know what you mean, it definitely lacks conviction ... which I must admit I prefer to excessive certainty either way (and I'm not an agnostic).
O.
Theism/Atheism: a position of belief or non-belief.
Gnosticism/Agnosticism: a position of knowing or non-knowing.You can be agnostic about anything, it does not imply a statement of belief or religion.
Nor is it a middle-ground between theism and atheism, because either you believe in a deity/deities, or you don't - there's no such thing as *sitting on the fence.

more or less, faster than Firewire 400*, but slower than Firewire 800* (*the number is megabyte per second).
USB 2.0 max speed is 480 MByte/s, nowhere near as fast as Firewire 800.
just saw the whole thing - no fucking Blu-ray?!? they're having a fucking bubble.
My inner scientific-units nazi couldn't be held back, I'm sorry:
Maximum channel capacity of USB 2 is 480mbps, megabits per second, which is around 60MBps, megabytes per second.
Same applies to Firewire 400 and 800 (50 megabytes and 100 megabytes per second).
The main difference is, however, that USB 2.0 use packeted transfer, relying on the CPU for translation. Firewire uses a dedicated controller.
In the real world, Firewire 400 is generally considerably faster, lower latency and more robust than USB 2.
I was looking forward to getting a new Macbook to replace my iBook, but no firewire means I can't use my mbox or avastor drives, which is half the reason I use a laptop. Loads of people are in the same situation.
Stupid, really, considering firewire controllers cost pennies these days.

Gruelling what way? Traffic? The elevation profile for it on Bikely looks pretty tame, the worst bit is the first 20k which isn't too bad.
I might give it a go through Epsom to Leathead then pick up Tommy's route down through Cobham and Horsley. I've got a GPS so complexity isn't a problem.
