I will be working on the basis that if I am going over the speed limit, others around me will be going faster. Mind you, I might be the one that the police can catch.
Perhaps we need a "fine pool".
Seriously, it is always worth riding with at least £30 in cash on you plus some fom of photo id. First, if you have a really bad calamity, you can get a cab to a decent bike shop or home; secondly, if you are hurt, you can be identified and thirdly, you can avoid arrest if stopped for a traffic violation.
A legal challenge would be an idea. The CTC or LCC might be willing to support this.

No buses on Arlington Road; but lots of 4x4s taking little girls to the nice primary school there (where my daughters used to go.) Stylish to go under a Range Rover surely? A really romantic death rather like dying of consumption when it was something that poets did before it became TB and became something poor people died of.

I found this link to a survey of traffic in Richmond Park. Apparently the police surveyed all traffic speeds and discovered that some cyclists exceed the speed limit but that there are few accidents. Accordingly there is no intention to introduce further traffic calming measures but now police will be allowed to issue on the spot fines to speeding cyclists.
I sometimes dispair about the instrusive nature of authority in this society.

I am delighted that you enjoyed the 1000m. I would enjoy watching you ride it too ;o)
It was good (if almost suicidal for the elderly among us) and it will make a 500m easier and faster.
Pre Christmas would be great. Ideally when the younger Os can accompany their parents and be embarrassed by them

Hey, we could have a whole new rep system based upon money donated. People could try and outbid each other; VB could have all the drink money he could ever possibly desire and die a sad and early death of some nasty alcohol related condition and the forum would fall apart. Alternatively, we could just have an anonymous donation button and all live hapily ever after.
Perhaps we need a poll?

Nik Cook, who wrote this piece is a top endurance athlete. He has an MSc in sports science from Bristol; has been a "celebrity personal trainer" completed two Iron Mans and run the Marathon de Sable (125 miles through the Sahara). He now lives and rides in the Peak District and writes professionally for cycling and Tri magazines. He rode the Paris-Roubaix with me this year (albeit a little ahead of me). His endorsement of fixed riding as a training tool is noteworthy.

Tim. Sorry to hear about your crash. Fix fast.
