I think you should weigh up the likely difference between selling privately (which means you'll get a higher price than a dealer) and just being as honest as you can about the problems and discount accordingly. If you're open and honest, a potential buyer won't necessarily be put off if you can show you're aware of the problems and have priced the car with those in mind.
You're kind of tied into things if you go down the dealer route and you usually end up paying more in the long run.
Depending on what you're after though, you can get a really good second hand car for that price, and you get all the usual benefits of any 1st owner faults having been fixed, as well as the depreciation taken into account. I have a 54 plate Seat Leon TDI FR, which has enough power at 150bhp to be a lot of fun (as some on here will attest) and was well within your price range.
What exactly are you looking for though? It looks like you're looking at superminis, but can you go bigger? Are you going to be driving in the city or on A-roads and motorways? Are you after something that's purely fun, or is practicality an issue as well?

Had no idea they were still making music, can't wait to hear this!

Sounding good so far...
I've never been disappointed with Air - even 10,000Hz Legend wasn't that bad as far as I was concerned. Nothing's going to top Moon Safari, but then nothing ever could.
Unfortunately the new Zero 7 album arrived yesterday and I am feeling down about that - they've steadily gone downhill since When It Falls and there's only one half decent song on the whole of Yeah Ghost. Got tickets for their gig in Camden but I'm really not sure I can be bothered now...

I'm going to end up sound like a Clinique whore, but I picked up their skincare range a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving it. I had a 4 day beard this morning, but used their face wash and face scrub in the shower, before using their shave cream.
I'd never used a shaving cream before and didn't feel comfortable that it didn't lather up like I was used to, but I got a really close shave, the blade didn't clog up and I didn't get much irritation - and I have really sensitive skin.
Finish off with their aftershave balm and I'm good to go... Mmm... Kissably smooth...

I've created a group for VW lovers.
goes off to put flamesuit on
There are groups? Sounds like a good group.
Anyway dunno if this works, http://www.londonfgss.com/group50.html - VW fans, uh, where you can post anything VW related and don't need to post to suit one's person's taste.

...the weezies who took an unhealthy interest in my bike when I went to get a bottle of wine tonight.
Nothing wrong with taking an interest, but walking up to me grabbing your crotch saying "lemme arks you summin' blud" and saying "innit" every other word? What the fuck is wrong with you? Your cock is not so big you have to hold it in place everywhere you go, and hey, if it is, buy briefs - practical and comfortable.

I've got a load of BMX videos that I've just found while clearing out the attic. They're all VHS, but if anyone's interested they're free to a good home. Pickup from Barking preferred, but I can post at cost if you want - bit bulky though.
Vids are:
Props Roadfools 2, 3, 4 and 7 and Roadfools Europe (all riding guaranteed 531)
Best of Roadfools
Props Year End 2000
Props Best of 1998
Props Passport
Clicked 1-6If I come across any more (think I've got a couple of US Ride ones too) I'll chuck them in.
EDIT: Just found the following:
Ride US - Basics
Ride US - Through the Lens
Seventies - Less is More
Soul - Spring 2002If no-one wants them they'll go in the bin, so if you've still got a VHS player and want to see some awesome mid-school riding, give me a bell.
Cheers...

Why don't they make hip hop like this anymore?
-
well i decided to cycle down to the centre (from hampstead) at 3/4 am last night, wearing nothing but boxers, converse and a nice hat...
Well that wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I'm relieved it wasn't anything homelessness/no money/chucked out by your partner related. There are some good people on this forum who'll look out for you if you get into a squeeze like that again.
Perhaps next time you might want to put some trousers on.
Glad the hat was nice though...

Unfortunately it's not - Radian is a beautfiul song, but the rest of the album is pretty experimental. Don't get me wrong, there are some good tunes, but it's not as polished as say Talkie Walkie or Pocket Symphony...
