They are a bit naughty though!
*
"I go onto the pavement at every opportunity. There has to be some payoff for all the good we are doing to the environment, eh ?And cops who are generally ready to bust any motorcyclist on a pavement turn a blind eye to cyclists. I actually once nearly ran down a cop on the pavement at Shoolay circle. He reprimanded me with a sharp "Nodkondu oduso lei", and ignored me."*

There are lots of cycling races in Africa, however, African teams do not yet have the level to compete a Tour de France but they are working on it and hope that it will be the case in a few years .
http://www.afrik.com/article7858.htmlThere are a few people in the French teams that are not white Said Haddou (his parents are Algerian), Yohan Gene and Rony Mathias are from Guadeloupe
http://www.equipebouyguestelecom.fr/home/pages/ebt/v4/l3/s18/riderlist_lng3_spo18_sitebt.shtmlWith anything your culture and your background will determine your interests. In an interview Said Haddou who used to live in a council estate outside Paris says he became interested in cycling when his neighbours took him to watch a race when he was 6 and later they suggested he joined a cycling club. He says that there is no racism in cycling but it is a very conservative sport. Because of his background it was more difficult than for others as no one around him knew the first thing about cycling.

But even if it isn't a cycle lane, if there is a line of stationary traffic whether you cycle along the left or right of vehicles you are always in danger that a passenger might decide to get off. You are not going to stay in the middle of a stationary line?
I would say it is a good idea to slow right down if you don't have 1.5m between you and the vehicles.Braincap, I guess the van was in the traffic lane or was it parked? There is a cycle lane I know on Lupus street in Pimlico that is right next to parked cars, using it would be very dangerous.

I think it is nice around there. We cycled through some roads between the Hill and Kings Avenue last week and places looked nice.
Anyway, another beautiful curry place: Hop & Spice in Balham.

The blog from Velorution reminds me of some of our own threads, this one came to mind
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread6488.htmlWe are shocked by Andrea's comments as he directs them at jews, cockneys, africans, south asians etc...
But on the forum we constantly accuse entire groups of people to be dangerous: bus, white vans, cab drivers, hgvs, peds, other cyclist etc...
We call the police cunts, pigs.

The pain you're getting sounds like a sciatica? I've had one for 3 years and it started with pain in my foot during spinning classes until it got really bad one day all along my leg and hip. The problem comes from my lower back, the nerve gets pinched. I am fine cycling on my commute I don't use clips (I only ride SS) but whenever I use spinning bikes at the gym I can feel it.
So yes get it checked out and also do some stretching exercises for your back. There are some excellent very simple yoga exercises to help with sciatica check the web, (but be careful some yoga exercises will make it worse).
