Unless you are riding across a large open field I wouldn't be too concerned. However if you are rubber tyres wouldn't do a think, you need to be wearing condoms as socks on your feet and on your saddle and grips to survive.
only works with the extra safe kinds though. Jeeez I hate it when people don't give accurate information... ;)

I missed you guys last night but I was happy to see PJ on my way up to Clapham Common.
We stopped at a light and an old lady came to see PJ and said "thank you very much for stopping. It is so nice to see" or something like that. Most of the other cyclists went through the red lights.
I hope you guys didn't terrorise the lovely French waitress at the C&H.

He deserve it for not locking his bike up properly and using a shitty lock, obviously an MTB are easily target simply because they're MTB.
And it's Portobello, not exactly a bike crime-free area, especially in weekends.
Nobody deserves to have their bike stolen. The thieves are at fault not the victim, whoever they are.

OK Tynan maybe not your dislike of the police but boy you can be very negative at times ;) but thank god Mary's dealings with the police weren't that bad.
Mary, I don't know you but I hope you heal very quickly and all the paperwork can wait for a few days, you need to rest and lick your wounds first.

I am not sure this thread is appropriate to make pessimistic gloomy comments.
Tynan, your dislike of the police is very strong and I am sure you have your reasons but why don't you tell us what happened to you rather than quoting generalisations that we are all aware of.
A lot of accidents are reported here but it would interesting to know how the accident happened, the dealings with the police and what happened to the driver?

outside Tesco. It doesn't look like he locked it.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7523144.stmJust got a copy of the Evening Standard, it's on the front page "MOMENT CAMERON BECAME A VICTIM OF CRIME" with picture.
On page one with picture:
"this the moment Conservative leader realised his bicycle had been stolen by a gang of teenagers. He had chained up his bike in Portobello Road, less than a mile from his home, as he went into a supermarket to buy salad for dinner. However when he returned 5 mn later, the bike was gone. Mr Cameron had chained it to a 2ft bollard, allowing thieves to lift both the bike and the lock clear". etc...On page 5, the story continues
...."On shop worker said "there had been a couple of kids hanging around."First page a gang of teenagers, on page 5 a couple of kids....

He was not fining or anything, just telling people that they should slow down, he was kind of cute hiding behind a branch. Last week we were told that the limit on the Common was 5mph. Villa-ru mentioned that a ped got knocked down by a cyclist hence the police presence.
I just hope that people will keep it slow, I would be really gutted it if the Common was to become a no-zone for cyclists.

There was a policeman hiding behind a tree on the path leading to Cedars Hill this morning. He said good morning and asked the guys behind us to stop as they were going too fast. He said to me "you're ok, you're going at the right speed"...damn
One of the guys who was going too fast was on a Charge plug, anyone here?

18h45 - Not sure what happened but there was a car positioned at a strange angle facing the pavement, maybe it came from a side road on the right and hit the cyclist. The female cyclist was sitting (and crying). There was a lot of blood on the kerb so I hope no one else got injured. I really hope she is ok and that she will be able to get back on her bike soon.
I didn't stop as I wasn't in a very good mood and would have slapped the driver and maybe the police...
Anyway third accident I see on my commute between Tooting Bec and Balham in one week. Thursday a very nasty car/motorbike accident, Monday a car, no idea what happened, it was smashed.
(and as I type I hear the 3rd police car passing by...)
Apart from that all is well and there seems to be much less traffic (must be summer hols) and everybody seems to be considerate.

I also find it a bit strange to listen to music on a bike but it is their choice, it's mainly going to be dangerous to them.
There was a really bad article in the London Paper on Tuesday with 3 novice cyclists telling their experiences on their first (and probably last) day cycing in London. It was very negative, there was no mention of training etc. And who are the readers? People who use the tube and will then think "I prefer to suffer in the heat than risk my life".
