I export from google earth which is recommended, no option other than KML and KMV.
Can I clarify, you are exporting a KML file from google earth to google maps after importing the GPX to??
Google maps will generally open a gpx file directly using the import function. It may depend if the GPX file is a GPX route as opposed to a gpx track. You can see which it is by opening the GPX file in notepad or a similar text editor.
Here is a google map created from a gpx import.

I wish there was a site that 'just worked'. I usually have 5min to pick a route before I leave.. if it fails to work properly someone in Beaconsfield will likely find a Garmin flying through their front window..
There is some merit in offline route creation using garmin's basecamp and the routable open streetmap.
Both are available for free for both pc and mac -

It's someone else's course though. I just downloaded it to try and follow it. I could follow it so not all is lost but it would be better if I got the normal warning beeps.
Even though the path you have is a GPX there are variations within these files and it depends on how they are created.#
There are "dumb" gpx files i.e. tracks that are just a series of lat and long points where the garmin needs to do very little calculation.Alternatively there are gpx routes that are a series of points which if you have routable maps the garmin actively calculates the path between them flagging up turns in the road as appropriate.

I need a new router as my current one (G-only virgin freebie) isn't man enough to spread le internet as far as i now need. Any recommendations for a decent N enabled dual band router that has very good range as standard, and won't cost a packet? Don't really want to start using repeaters when a new router will do the job, if possible..
Look for one with MIMO in the name.

Here are a few pics

The bracket is aluminium with the screws and spacers being stainless steel.
The tube is 32mm? waste pipe, costs about £2.59 for two metres. The piece in the pic is a bit I had lying about. -

Just tried it, GPX route files only give the via points and not the path.
GPX track files give the path.
Put the gpx file somewhere and I can convert it for you or maybe gps vizualizer can do it. Upload the gpx route and download as a gpx i am fairly sure the output is a track.
